Officials Key
Officials are licensed for each event type individually. Each individual license will indicate the officials level next to each event type. The following is the key to the event level and its explanation.
- Master of Hounds is a licensed official responsible for seeing that each hunt is conducted fairly and in accordance with all UKC Rules and Policies. The duties of the Master of Hounds include overseeing the draw, answering questions and resolving disputes, and completing post-event paperwork.
- Bench Show Judge is the licensed official responsible for overseeing the bench shows. The Bench Show Judge is thoroughly familiar with UKC breed standards and judges each dog against the appropriate standard for its breed while also understanding the anatomy of the breeds being judged, including how to evaluate gait. The duties of the Bench Show Judge include overseeing that all UKC rules for taking entries are followed, explaining placement choices to exhibitors if asked, and completing post-event paperwork.
- Performance Pack Certificate Judge is a licensed official who has a mastery of judging skills. Each Performance Pack Certification Judge is an experienced Beagler with an apt understanding of UKC Performance Pack Rules who is specially assigned by UKC to aid in the judge approval process. Apprentice judges must judge at least once under a Performance Pack Certification Judge, for the purpose of review, before their apprentice period is considered complete.
- Performance Pack Judge is in complete authority of each cast and makes all calls pertaining to the cast. Employing their distinct understanding of the sport in all facets, a Performance Pack Judge keeps the cast updated on scoring as it happens. All judges must be at least 16 years of age and must be knowledgeable in UKC Performance Pack rules. Becoming an Official UKC Performance Pack Judges requires submitting a UKC judge’s application, passing a written test, and having completed three apprenticeships under three previously-licensed Judges, one of whom must be a “Certification Judge,†as designated by the United Kennel Club.
