Permanent Registration
How to Obtain Permanent Registration
UKC Permanent Registration status denotes a dog that has been successfully accepted into the UKC and/or FDSB stud book. A dog holding Permanent Registration status is entitled to all rights and privileges appropriate for its breed, providing all applicable UKC Rules & Regulations are followed.
Not all dogs are eligible for UKC Permanent Registration, which includes conformation and breeding rights. Some dogs are granted Performance event rights only.
Methods To Obtain Permanent Registration:
Method 1: a litter of pups is produced by two UKC registered dogs of the same breed. The breeder submits the Litter Registration form to UKC for processing and approval. In return, the breeder receives individualized Puppy Booklets & Applications for each pup. The breeder provides each new pup buyer with a booklet (containing the official application). The new owners completes the application within the booklet on page 1 and sends to UKC for processing and approval. Once approved, that dog is now Permanently Registered!
Note: a pup eligible to apply for Permanent Registration is not fully registered until the application has been submitted, processed, and approved by UKC.
Method 2: if your dog is registered by a UKC-recognized registry acknowledged as legitimate, you can Single Register that dog with UKC. If accepted, your dog is Permanently Registered!
How to Transfer Ownership of a Permanently Registered Dog or How to Ready A Puppy For New Ownership
Puppy:
- The breeder in possession of the puppy must sign the Puppy Application (located on page 1 of the Puppy Booklet) for the pup to be sent home with a new owner.
- The new owner then completes the application and mails to UKC for processing and approval.
Adult Dog on Valid Papers:
- If the dog has already gone through the Permanent Registration process (above) and is fully Permanently Registered (the owner is in possession of a valid UKC Registration Certificate), the owner must fill out the designated area on the Certificate portion of the pedigree.
- The seller/Sole Signatory must sign the Certificate exactly as their name appears on it. If the dog is registered in an and partnership, both co-registrants must sign.
-
The seller/Sole Signatory must include the date of sale.
Note: If the certificate is signed by the seller(s)/Sole Signatory but no purchase date is provided, the date the transfer is received at UKC will be listed as the purchase date. - The new registrant(s) must complete their information in the appropriate sections of the application.
How To Change My Dogs Registered Name
In the Permanent Registration Ownership Transfer process, United Kennel Club does not allow the dog's name to be changed if one or both of the following has occurred:
- Once a dog has earned a UKC title, no part of the dog's name can be changed.
- Once the dog becomes a sire or dam of a UKC registered litter, no part of the dog's name can be changed.
If the conditions above do not apply, the following options are available:
- To change the dog's name on a Permanent Registration Ownership Transfer, the new registrant/Sole Signatory can fill in the new name on the back of the original Permanent Registration Certificate (provided it has been left blank by the seller), when submitting the Permanent Registration Transfer.
- To change the dog's name on a Permanent Registration Certificate , the current registrant/Sole Signatory can fill in the new name on the back of the Permanent Registration Certificate and submit the certificate to UKC with the fee for the specific registration package fee that is desired.
UKC reserves the right to deny a dog's name for any reason. Any name deemed discriminatory or derogatory towards race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin will be denied.
