Welcome back to the 29th edition of the UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin. First off, I want to send my sincerest gratitude to all those that have served and are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is because of your sacrifices that the United States of America remains the greatest country on Earth. On this Veterans Day, I just want to say, thank you for your service and we appreciate you!
PAST EVENTS
This past weekend there was only one major event on the schedule and that was the Southeastern Treeing Walker Youth Championship in Union, South Carolina. Thank you to Lisa Beddingfield for sending the results over to me so promptly. Here are the results:
- 2025 SETWA Youth Championship
UPCOMING EVENTS
As I mentioned last week, the rest of November is pretty bleak as far as major events go. However, there are still many local level events that are having hunts and shows where you can get the wins necessary for titles, TOC qualifications, Top Ten points, and more.
- Here is the interactive Coonhound Events Calendar. Here, you can search by state, date, event type, and more. Don't miss out on any of the action.
- Here is the updated Coonhound Major Events Schedule. Remember, this schedule is considered tentative. Dates and/or locations are subject to change. But it is definitely a good starting point for those trying to make plans for traveling next year.
- Here is the updated Youth Coonhound Series Schedule. Again, this is a tentative schedule. If nothing, this schedule is even more volatile than the Major Event Schedule with these dates and locations varying so much year to year. But again, its great starting point for those that are making plans for the Spotlight Series grind.
- The tentative RQE Schedule should be posted by next Tuesdays bulletin. I am just trying to shore up a few more things before making it public.
WHATS HAPPENING?
For the most part, everything happening this time of year is full steam ahead in getting ready for next year. The next few weeks will be full of information for next years events so stay tuned!
1) In November, I feel its mandatory to mention the Top Ten Bench Show Series. Like weve talked about, the series year ended on October 31st. Over the past two weeks, we have gotten in most of the October reports and are now working on any past due reports to get processed. I hope to have a list of outstanding reports in a future bulletin. We are working to finalize the standings so we can get the certificates and invites out to the deserving dogs. The online standings were updated last Tuesday, and can be found here: Top Ten Bench Show Standings
2) Time is ticking on getting your hounds qualified for the 2026 UKC Tournament of Champions. Remember, you just need FIVE cast wins during the 2025 calendar year to be qualified. That means five cast wins between January 1st and December 31st. Last Tuesday I updated the qualifier list here: UKC Tournament of Champions Qualifiers
There are going to be some things coming out on TOC very soon. We are currently close to announcing two new Region locations for 2026. The Ten Mile, Tennessee Region location is being moved, and we really appreciate them for hosting a Region the past couple years. They did awesome, as we knew they would. We are planning on adding Region locations in Kentucky and Alabama. Right now, we have verbal agreements in place but I would like to get them in writing before any formal announcement is made.
3) The time is here to get entered into the 2026 Grand American!
- I put the Grand American entry form here (click here).
- You can find a ton of other information on their Facebook page. They are really good about sharing information on there. Go to: Grand American Coon Hunt Official Event Page
- Check out the Grand American Web Page for more information.
4) Speaking of Grand American, entries for the 2026 Grand American Pro Slam open on December 1, 2025, at 9am ET. See the event ad here: 2026 Grand American Pro Slam
5) United Kennel Club is continuing to work on modernizing our processes to make things easier for you all. Just this past week, two new things were introduced to me.
- The Top Producers List has a new look, that to me, is much easier to navigate and read. You can find it in the Coonhound Standings/Results page. Here is a direct link: Top Producers
- The Club Officer Update Form has now been added as an online template on the website. Ensuring that your club has the most up to date information for your officers is imperative to ensuring the communication between UKC and the clubs is seamless. As we've been pushing for several years now, it is imperative that we have an email address on file for each club. That form of communication is so much more efficient and effective than mailings that are lost or inadvertently tossed. You can update your club's officers here now: Hunting Ops Club Officer Update Form
DOG OF THE WEEK
To continue last weeks trend, we are going to move on to the first GRNITECHHOF hound in the Bluetick breed. GRNITECHHOF GRCH(3) 'PR' CM'S Blue Starline Elvira achieved that feat back in November of 2019, six months before the next Bluetick would do it. Lets find out a little more about her.
Name: GRNITECHHOF GRCH(3) 'PR' CM'S Blue Starline Elvira
Breed: Bluetick Coonhound
Date of Birth: 4/22/2012
Owned by: Charles Morris of French Lick, IN
Bred by: Bobby Phillips
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- GRNITECH'PR'DANCER'S NORTHERN BLUE SON
- 'PR'TADPOLE'S LITTLE RAIDEN
--- CH'PR'WILL'S CREEK BLUE SADIE II
GRNITECHHOF GRCH(3)'PR'CM'S BLUE STARLINE ELVIRA
--- GRCH'PR'GALLOWAY'S BLUE INDIAN MARK S
- 'PR'TADPOLES DRIVING MISS DAISY
--- CH'PR'BULLARDS BEAR CREEK JANE
Charles didnt have to wait long to have success in the competitions with Elvira, with her getting her first cast win in May of 2013, as a 13-month-old hound. Five months later, she earned her third Registered win to finish to NITECH. Thirteen months later, Elvira finished to GRNITECH with two cast wins over a weekend at an Indiana State Coonhound Association event.
Most of Elviras climb to GRNITECHHOF happened before the title even existed. Having said that, her win history was awesome to look at. While most hounds have a couple year peak where they accrue a majority of their wins, Elvira had wins almost evenly spread out over the ten years she competed. To put that in perspective for the readers, she had three cast wins in 2013, five in 2014, five in 2015, two in 2016, five in 2017, ten in 2018, sixteen in 2019, three in 2020, four in 2021, and four in 2022. That is 57 cast wins total with cast wins in ten different years showcasing incredible consistency and longevity.
Elvira finished to GRNITECHHOF in November of 2019, 6-1/2 years after her first cast win. As the years went on, more and more of Elviras wins were at the major event level, although Charles always supported the local events with her as well. Some of her wins include at the 2015 Indiana State Championship, 2016 Bluetick Reunion, 2019 Bluetick Reunion, 2019 Plott Days, 2019 Bluetick Days, 2019 English Days, 2019 American Redbone Days, 2019 Indiana State Championship, 2021 Bluetick Days, 2022 Winter Classic, and 2022 Bluetick Days.
Elviras competition career will be one I remember due to the uniqueness of it, excelling over an entire decade. Along with her owner/handler, Charles Morris, who has been named the oldest handler at UKC major events more than a few times, they made quite the duo. Congratulations to both of them on the accomplishment on being the first Bluetick Coonhound to earn the GRNITECHHOF title.
UKC HUNTING OPS PODCAST
On last Wednesdays episode, I sat with Logan Rose and we talked all about him winning the UKC Triple Crown with his hound, GRNITECH(4) PR Roses Wild Dreamin Echo. You will enjoy this insight from a young hunter who is mature well beyond his years. If you missed the Triple Crown announcement, you can see it here: 2025 UKC Triple Crown Winner
UKCS ALL-QUARTER CENTURY CAST
Last week, I gushed on here about the participation on the poll. Well this week, we had nearly 300 more votes than last week! 811 people let their voice be heard and voted for the final member of UKCs All-Quarter Century Cast. Thought all five dogs got a fair amount of votes, it came down to two hounds, the 2020 World Champion Mojo's Electric Rodeo and the 2018 World Champion Gray's Rack Em Willy. Both hounds had over 300 votes but winning by just over 4.44% was WLDNITECH GRNITECH(2) 'PR' Gray's Rack Em Willy, securing 42.29% of the vote.
What an impressive group of hounds to represent the past quarter century of hounds in UKCs Coonhound Program. You all did good voting. And congratulations to everyone who had a hound in one of the hounds listed in any of the polls. Such an accomplishment in it's own right. But the UKC All-Quarter Century Cast is as follows.
WLDNITECH GRNITECH(3) PR Willys Little Ann
GRNITECH 'PR' 7 Oaks Hardtime Lola
NGRNCH GRCH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Redneck Backwoods Shack
WLDNITECH GRNITECH(2) 'PR' Gray's Rack Em Willy
The team thought it would be fun to conduct one last poll. If these four hounds at their peak, lined up for a two-hour cast, who would be your winner? Lets take one more look at their resume, with some extra information compiled.
