UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Episode 9

June 24, 2025

Whats going on everyone?! I have been getting a lot of good feedback on the weekly bulletin. I appreciate you all checking in every week to see what is happening in the UKC Coonhound world. For past versions, you can find them here. The past week, I took a couple of days off for some family time so today may not be as in depth as past weeks versions. We do have some great things coming up though. One thing I have been especially excited about the past few weeks is compiling information for the UKC Coonhound All-Quarter Century Cast series that we are working on. What does that mean? Ill explain.

Anyone who knows me or follows my personal page knows that Im a sports junky. Particularly baseball but I like all of it. The past few months there have been numerous articles, podcasts, and discussions about Quarter Century teams in MLB, NBA, and the NFL. I was listening to one such podcast on the way to an event a few weeks back that got my mind churning. How could we put together an All-Quarter Century cast for UKC coonhounds?

As it currently stands, UKC has four major administered events that crown an overall nite hunt winner. (Im not counting Youth Nationals here because we crown the handlers there, not the dogs.) Those four are the UKC Coonhound World Championship, Autumn Oaks, Winter Classic, and the UKC Tournament of Champions. If we were able to pull a winner from each of those four events, we would have the perfect amount of dogs for a four dog cast. So how will this work?

Each week, you all will be able to vote for a dog out of a selection of four to five past winners, to advance. You all have the say. The field will be whittled down week over week and by the beginning of November, we will have the UKC Coonhound All-Quarter Century Cast which in theory would be the four most prolific, talented, cast winning hounds of the past 25 years of UKC licensed nite hunts. Each week, Ill try to give you as much information as I can compile on each of the hounds you will be choosing from, so you can make your selection.

Next weeks bulletin will feature the first poll of this series, where you all will choose one of the five UKC Tournament of Champion winners to advance to the All-Quarter Century Cast. With there only being five years of history in that event this quarter century, one of Bad Butch, Conor McGregor, Hardtimes Hobo, Maxed Out, or Little Ann will be a member of the All-Quarter Century Cast. Be sure you come back each Tuesday afternoon to cast your vote! This is going to be a blast.

PAST EVENTS

This past weekend was fairly slow on the Major Event and Youth Championship schedules as we mentioned. The Pennsylvania State Championship was the only event featured and unfortunately I did not receive results for the event just yet.

I will say, pictures from Plott Days have now been posted on SmugMug, here! Another great job by my friend Tracy Chilson in capturing the event through these photos.

UPCOMING EVENTS

As the temperatures rise, the major events slow down a tad. This weekend there is the last chartered breed day event of the year, a youth championship that will take place at that breed day event, and just two Regional Qualifying Events. One at the breed day event that is breed specific, and one in Maine. Actually with next weekend being 4th of July weekend, the next qualifying opportunities will be July 12th weekend. By my count, there are less than 40 chances to get your dog qualified for the World Championship across the US and Canada remaining. Better get it while the getting is good.

* I will be in Odon at Redbone Days about Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening so come by and see me, turn in some papers, talk dogs, or whatever else. Bring your sunscreen!

WHATS HAPPENING?

Lets stay on the topic of qualifying for the World Championship for a minute. As I'm typing, there have been 144 nite hunt qualifying event reports processed, with 589 dogs currently qualified for the UKC World Championship. The Top 5 Nite Hunt RQEs that have been processed were put on by the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association, United English Breeders & Fanciers Association, Ashland County Coonhunters Inc, South Carolina State Coonhunters Association, and the Bluetick Breeders of America Inc. The cutoff to get into that Top 5 is 37 entries. Can anyone bust into that group over the next couple months? Well see.

For the show side, there have been 125 bench show qualifying event reports processed with 503 dogs currently qualified for the UKC World Championship (more than likely some dogs have done this multiple times and skewed this number slightly.) The Top 5 Bench Show RQEs that have been processed were put on by the Mercer County Coonhunters Association, Wayne County Coon Hunters Association Inc, United English Breeders & Fanciers Association, Lawrence County Coonhunters Association, and a tie for 5th between Crawford County Coonhunters Inc and Appalachian Coon Hunters. It will take 21 or more entries for a club to bust into that Top 5. Who can do it?

For full RQE results as I type them up, see here. Also to note, certificates are being mailed out for the years qualifiers as you read this. Entries will open for those qualified on July 1st.
For more information on the Coonhound World Championship, see here.

As is customary every other Tuesday, both the Top Ten and TOC Qualifier lists were updated today.
- The Top Ten Standings saw some major reshuffling after some very successful Plott Day bench shows. You can see those standings here: Top Ten Bench Show Standings
- The UKC Tournament of Champions Qualifiers List is up to 363 hounds in this weeks update. That puts us about 10 dogs behind last years record pace but still very encouraging. You can see the list of TOC Qualified Hounds here.

We are down to just one report we are waiting on to finalize the 2024-25 Next Generation Spotlight Series Standings. Any help would be appreciated as I have been unable to make contact by phone. The standings are up to date and as soon as we get this report, we will be ready to roll.

DOG OF THE WEEK

The past couple of weeks, I have focused on some impressive feats by dual purpose hounds in this segment. This week, while scrolling through the Coonhound Hall of Fame list, one thing caught my eye. It was a World Champion title. So not only does this hound we are featuring today have the consistency to win over 50 UKC casts, but it has the top end talent to bring home one of the most prestigious titles in coonhunting, the Coonhound World Championship.

The hound Im speaking of is none other than WLDNITECH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Snookis Cookie. Cookie is owned by Justin Davenport, the late Stephen Davenport, and Shane Groves. Cookie has had a truly incredible career across multiple registries. First, lets find out a little more about her.

Name: WLDNITECH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Snookis Cookie
Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound
Date of Birth: 6/15/2017
Owned by: Justin Davenport, Stephen Davenport, and Shane Groves of Fredericksburg, Indiana
Bred by: Tommy Little
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- GRCH GRNITECH 'PR' Neosho River Rudy
- CH GRNITECH 'PR' R&R's Neosho Cuz
--- NITECH 'PR' Lil Bit of Dutchess
WLDNITECH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Snookis Cookie
--- NGRNCH WLDNITECH GRNITECH 'PR' House's Mr Clean
- 'PR' Little's Snooki
--- CH GRNITECH 'PR' Ward Mtn Misty

Though Cookie has excelled across multiple registries amassing an overwhelming amount of cast wins, today we will focus on her UKC record, naturally. She made NITECH at 16 months old in early November 2018. She finished to GRNITECH in February of 2021, and a mere three years later, she finished to GRNITECHHOF in August of 2024. As she sits currently, she has 55 cast wins in UKC amassing 22,425 plus points across her 52 NITECH and GRNITECH wins. (I dont have numbers for her three registered cast wins.) Thats an average score of over 430+ per cast.

Most of these wins have happened at the major event level. Her win record is full of wins at RQEs, World Zones, World Finals, TOC Regions, TOC Finals, Autumn Oaks, and most recently at the Treeing Walker Pro Slam just a couple months back. She is a hound whose name and legacy will go on long after she makes her final tree.

UKC Hunting Ops Podcast

I apologize to our listeners out there that we didnt have any fresh content for our listeners last week. Between the Hunting Ops team being away at events and the Media team being away at events, we just couldnt find the time. If you are looking for one to relisten to, might I suggest going back and listening to Episode 60 where Allen and I share some tips that we compiled from successful clubs, for successful clubs. Its worth staying fresh on.

Guided by the belief that dogs make a difference by being the best partner a human can have in the field, on the job, or in a competition event, UKC is a community for people and dogs to pursue excellence together. Founded in 1898, UKC has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of Dogs That Do More, and their owners, by providing essential resources to help owners and breeders make informed decisions.
