Hows it going this week? Im not a mind reader, but Id say most of you have been dealing with crumby weather since we last talked in last weeks bulletin. I was in Flora, Illinois at English Days for most of the past week. Man, we had a great time. It takes me back to my first event I worked for United Kennel Club. English Days in Portland, Indiana back in June of 2019. I was as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. I hardly knew a person there outside of some guys I knew from back home in east Tennessee. Fast forward six years and each breed day I go to is like a reunion of sorts. It truly is a blessing to have made so many acquaintances over the years and some I consider to be close friends. Speaking of English Days, lets briefly dive into last weekends major events.
PAST EVENTS
It wasnt too busy of a weekend this past weekend with just English Days and the Treeing Walker Youth Championship on the schedule. I appreciate Tiffany Ealy for sending me the results of the youth championship. She made a point to make sure the reports were filled out perfectly with the youth handlers information clear and concise which sure makes life easier for Lacey and I when we are processing reports and typing results.
- English Days (includes the English Youth Championship)
- Treeing Walker Youth Championship
UPCOMING EVENTS
Once again, a busy weekend is on tap for all you hound folks out there. There are two breed day events, both of which have some great youth stuff added in. There is one state youth championship that will offer double Spotlight Series points. And once again there are a handful of Regional Qualifying Events, with seven RQEs in six different states over the weekend including IN, MN, MO, OH, OK, and TN. We truly are getting to the nitty gritty in terms of getting dogs qualified. Ill take a closer look at that next week. You can find all the events here on the Events Calendar where you can sort my event type, state, date, etc. Dont get left in the dark.
- National Plott Days in Tell City, Indiana
- National Plott Hound Association Youth Championship in Tell City, Indiana
- American Redbone Days in Bellevue, Michigan
- American Redbone Coonhound Association Youth Championship in Bellevue, Michigan
- Wisconsin State Youth Championship in Brooklyn, Wisconsin
* I will be at Plott Days around midday on Thursday through the end of the event early on Sunday morning. Come by and turn in any paperwork you have or just come by and just shoot the breeze. We got some long days on tap.
* Anyone that is going to be at American Redbone Days or the Wisconsin State Youth Championship, I would sure appreciate someone getting the event reports to me so I can post the results online here: Standings/Results Page
WHATS HAPPENING?
Time is flying, that is what is happening. I blinked and we are halfway through the year. That is hard to believe. Anyways, as I try to do every other Tuesday, I updated the Tournament of Champions Qualified Dog and Top Ten Bench Show Standings today. Lets look at those quick.
There was big bump in qualified dogs for the TOC in this latest update, jumping from 236 qualified dogs to 302. That is a 66-dog increase. And comparing it to my list from last year on this date, we are sitting at the same number. Exciting stuff. You can find that here all year long, UKC Tournament of Champions List of Qualified Dogs.
On the Top Ten Bench Show standings, there was a big shuffle. As you can imagine, the shows at English Days had a major bearing on the standings for not only the English breed but a couple others. While Im here, shout out to the English Association on some truly incredible shows. Over their show events, which ranged from Wednesday through Saturday, they had the following show numbers, 29 Wednesday, 59 Thursday, 70 Friday, 53 Saturday, and even a 36-dog youth show on Saturday. Those numbers are far and away the most at a breed day event since Ive been around. I can imagine we will see another bump in the standings after this weekends Plott and Redbone Day events. See Top Ten Bench Show Standings here.
As I had teased on here the last few weeks, the Autumn Oaks ad dropped last Wednesday. The biggest difference you will see in this ad compared to last years will be the Thursday show portion. The Conformation Show at Autumn Oaks on Thursday is out. In its place is going to be some pretty neat specialty shows that should showcase hounds and breeding programs in a variety of ways. The shows include the following:
- Youth Showmanship Show (Spotlight Series points available for Open Classes)
- 4-6 month old Puppy Show
- 6-9 month old Puppy Show
- 9-12 month old Puppy Show
- Veteran's Show for hounds 7+ years old
- Stud Dog Show (sire and two offspring)
- Brood Female Show (dam and two offspring)
- Generations Show (three generations)
- GRCH Hall of Fame Show (for those hounds that have achieved that title)
There is a lot more information in the event ad, so be sure to check out all things Autumn Oaks right here. Also last week, we announced the show judges for that Thursday show. Congratulations to Heath Hyatt and Scarlett Leigh on accepting those assignments. Paired with the weekends judges of Corey Gruver and Liz Stocker Phipps, it should make for a great weekend of showing dogs.

Its the first of the month so the Advisor Column from the newest edition of Coonhound Bloodlines has been added to the News Portion of UKCs website. Like I mentioned a few bulletins back, I try to keep all the advisor columns readily available with a Table of Contents on the Forums. Be sure you check that out here. This months article was centered around the hot button word of the weekend at Walker Days, interference. Its definitely a good one to read as it is often misused in the field.
Here is this weeks update on the Spotlight Series and which reports we are needing to finalize the standings.

DOG OF THE WEEK
Im adding a new segment to the bulletin this week where I am going to talk about the dog of the week each week. Im going to start on the Hall of Fame list you can find on our website, here. I havent updated it since April 24th but I will get around to doing a new update soon. I couldnt think of a better dog to start with than GRCHHOF GRNITECHHOF PR Hardys Fabous River Katie HTX2. Not only was she the first dog to get the GRNITECHHOF title, but also the first to earn the dual HOF titles. Remarkably at 14 years of age, she is still competing and winning shows around Missouri. Lets learn a little more about her.
Name: GRCHHOF GRNITECHHOF PR Hardys Fabous River Katie HTX2
Date of Birth: 5/26/2011
Owned by: Martin Hardy Jr and Martin Hardy Sr of Herculaneum, Missouri
Bred by: Kerry Krueger
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- CH GRNITECH PR Mister Jack
- GRNITECH 'PR' Mister Rajun Cajun
--- GRNITECH PR Illinois Abbey
GRCHHOF GRNITECHHOF PR Hardys Fabous River Katie HTX2
--- GRNITECH PR Wheatley Hardwood Viper
- NITECH 'PR' Missouri's Hustlin Jane
--- PR Hardwood Dolly
To keep in short, Im going to focus less about the wins and more on the sheer numbers here which are incredible. First, lets look at her nite hunt history. Katie earned her NITECH title back in April of 2014, then quickly followed that up in September of 2014 by making GRNITECH. Incredibly, it only took her two short years to finish to GRNITECHHOF with her 37 GRNITECH wins. She earned that distinction in October of 2016 (retroactively as HOF titles werent a thing at the time). Her competition hunting career is over now having earned her last cast win in 2020 but over her lifetime she racked up 68 UKC licensed cast wins including 60 GRNITECH wins. That doesn't mean that Martin doesnt hunt her anymore. She finished to HTX2 back in January of 2024.
Her Bench Show record is even more astounding. She attained her CH title in May of 2016, her GRCH title in August of 2016, and grinded out her GRCHHOF title in August of 2019. Since then, Martin has continued to show her. As she sits right now, she has an astonishing 193 GRCH wins including three in the past month. Not only should we applaud Martin and Katie on their accomplishments but the clubs in Missouri should appreciate knowing that they can count on at least one entry to be there, regardless. Ol Katie has a resume that will be hard to replicate.
UKC HUNTING OPS PODCAST
Hopefully you all enjoyed last weeks episode of the podcast with Allen Gingerich, Danielle Champ, and I talking about the Bench Show Program and some ideas we have been pondering. We also talked in depth about the Autumn Oaks Bench Show so if you plan on attending, I recommend that one to listen to.
This weeks episode will be on the history of Youth Nationals. It makes sense with this being the 25th Anniversary of the event. Allen and I dig through the event year by year. Youll want to listen to that one.
Ill end this with my last installment about the Reproducers Series that Allen and I put out on the podcast feed on episodes 143, 149, and 153. Ive shared the statistics for every breed except for the Plott breed and with it being the week of Plott Days, it makes perfect sense to do that now.
