UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Edition 28

November 4, 2025

Source: Trevor Wade, Coonhound Program Manager

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the 28th Edition of the UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin. Sorry to everyone if my communication has been spotty the past week or so. I have been in and out of the office dealing with medical appointments. But Im back now and ready to talk hounds.

As I type this on Tuesday morning, I can look out my window, and the leaves are flying off the trees. Temperatures continue to drop. Besides the time change which never makes sense to me, it is one of my favorite times of year. I hope you all are having a great early season. Lets see what is going on in UKC's Coonhound Program.

PAST EVENTS

Last week there was a state championship, a youth state championship, and a pro slam on the major event schedule. I dont have results from the Alabama State Youth Championship yet, but I did get the results from Mississippi. As always, as results roll in, I will post them here: Coonhound Standings/Results Page

- Mississippi State Championship Results

- MS State Pro Slam Results

UPCOMING EVENTS

For the rest of the year, events on the Major Event and Youth Championship Schedules are few and far between. You can hit the links above to see next years tentative schedule. Remember, this early in the game, things are subject to change. I am working on finalizing the RQE Schedule and the Youth Championship schedules now so only the Major Event schedule has next years dates available as of today.

This weekend there is one youth championship, and it is as follows:

- Southeastern Treeing Walker Days in Union, South Carolina

Unfortunately, the SETWA Pro Slam did not fill, and those refunds have been initiated. Thank you to those who entered.

WHATS HAPPENING?

I know all eyes on are the Top Ten Bench Show Standings. I updated the standings this morning, but obviously there are more reports to be processed before they are finalized. Once we have that list of reports that have yet to be processed, I will start sharing that weekly, so you all can gauge what potential changes might look like. Typically, at this point in the game, movement is minimal. To see the most up to date standings, go here: Top Ten Bench Show Standings

Also today, I updated the Tournament of Champions Qualifier List. We broke the 1,000-dog threshold in this weeks download, ending up at 1,034. That is 100 more than the last download two weeks ago. I have a feeling we will continue to see big jumps in that number as the year winds down. Im excited to see where it ultimately ends up. The time is here to get entered into the 2026 Grand American!
- I put the Grand American entry form here (click here).
- You can find a ton of other information on their Facebook page. They are really good about sharing information on there. Go to: Grand American Coon Hunt Official Event Page
- Check out the Grand American Web Page for more information.

Speaking of Grand American, entries for the 2026 Grand American Pro Slam open on December 1, 2025, at 9am ET. See the event ad here: 2026 Grand American Pro Slam

After this past weekends pro slam in Mississippi, I updated the Money Winners list. You can always find that here: Coonhound All Time Money Winners

DOG OF THE WEEK

For this weeks dog of the week section, Im switching gears. Lets talk about the first Black and Tan Coonhound to achieve the GRNITECHHOF title. GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Nelson's Northern Dixie was the first by almost two years, when she got that final cast win to achieve the title in June of 2021. Lets find out more about her.

Name: GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Nelson's Northern Dixie
Breed: American Black and Tan Coonhound
Date of Birth: 6/8/2013
Owned by: Jeff Nelson and Gary Tallent of Attica, MI
Bred by: Scott Rodden
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- 'PR'WHITE'S BLACK RIVER ROY
- GRNITECH'PR'MC COINS BLACK RIVER BUDDY
--- 'PR'WHITE'S BLACK RIVER JILL
GRNITECHHOF'PR'NELSON'S NORTHERN DIXIE
--- GRNITECH GRCH'PR'DYLANS DUELIN DAN
- GRNITECH'PR'HAYDENS DUELIN DIXIES GEM
--- GRNITECH'PR'BLACKWATER RUBY TOO

Dixies impressive competition career began just two days shy of her 2nd birthday with a cast win at the Illinois State Championship. It was full steam ahead from there. The next weekend she finished to NITECH. She followed that up by finishing to GRNITECH in October, 4-1/2 months after that first cast win.

After making GRNITECH, Dixie really wasnt pushed in UKCs events, as was customary before the implementation of the multiplier titles and the Tournament of Champions. As a matter of fact, she only registered one cast between finishing to GRNITECH in October of 2015 and May of 2018 at Black and Tan Days. In 2018, she came back out and won five casts. Then in 2019, she won nine casts in mostly major events, including double cast wins at Black and Tan Days, Platteville RQE, and double cast wins at the Iowa State Championship.

2020 shut down a lot of things but not Dixies win streak. She was able to accrue 12 cast wins during the year. 2021 would be one of the best years for Dixie as a seven year old hound, with 10 cast wins, I'm sure none more important to Jeff and Gary than being crowned Queen of Black and Tan Days in May. A month later, Dixie got that 37th GRNITECH win to finish to GRNITECHHOF in Millington, Michigan.

Dixie stacked up five more wins after finishing to GRNITECHHOF and currently sits with 42 GRNITECH wins, and one of just six Black and Tan Coonhounds to achieve the GRNITECHHOF title. She will always be remembered as being the very first in the breed to do so.

UKC HUNTING OPS PODCAST

I hope you all enjoyed last weeks episode with Allen and I recapping the Coonhound World Championship. I know its been a bit, but it truly was a remarkable event and Im very thankful for all that were involved. We should have much more information coming out soon regarding next years event.

UKCS ALL-QUARTER CENTURY CAST

Last weeks poll was one for the record books in this series. 597 people participated in the poll which is almost double the next highest week. To be frank, all five hounds got enough votes to be competitive in most weeks. Two hounds got into triple digits with their votes. Even having said that, accruing 333 votes and 55.78% of the weeks vote was WLDNITECH NITECH 'PR' Mojo's Electric Rodeo. He will be moving on to this weeks poll in the World Championship Finals which is absolutely stacked.

When you think of some of the most iconic hounds in the history of United Kennel Club, these five hounds come to mind. Five Treeing Walkers that have had a huge impact on the hounds we are hunting today. Four males and one female. Who will join our Tournament of Champions representative, WLDNITECH GRNITECH(3) PR Willys Little Ann, the Winter Classic representative, GRNITECH 'PR' 7 Oaks Hardtime Lola, and the Autumn Oaks representative, NGRNCH GRCH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Redneck Backwoods Shack in the UKC All-Quarter Century Cast?
