DOG OF THE WEEK

Once again this week, I found myself scrolling down the Coonhound HOF Title List, looking for something to jump out to me. Its safe to say Im in full blown World Championship mode, as the first dogs to pop out to me were a couple of World Show Champions on the Hall of Fame list. They are going to be my next two dogs of the week. But this week we are going to focus on the 2014 World Champion, WSHOWCH NITECH CCH GRCHHOF 'PR' Kentucky Mtn Diamond Cutter. Lets find out a little more about him.

Name: WSHOWCH NITECH CCH GRCHHOF 'PR' Kentucky Mtn Diamond Cutter
Breed: English Coonhound
Date of Birth: 4/16/2011
Owned by: Penny Turner of Jackson, Kentucky
Bred by: Penny Turner/Sianna Spieth
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- CH'PR'MOONLIGHT CHARLIE
- CCH GRCH'PR'KENTUCKY MTN. MOONLIGHT DIAMOND
--- GRCH'PR'CLOWN AROUND PATCHES
WSHOWCH NITECH CCH GRCHHOF'PR'KENTUCKY MTN DIAMOND CUTTER
--- GRCH SPIETH'S LITTLE BOSSMAN
- CH'PR'KENTUCKY MTN MOONLIGHT CHLOE
--- GRCH'PR'SPIETH'S LITE'EM UP SADI

Cutter didnt just excel in the shows. He was also a NITECH, having won three casts in 2014 to earn that title. But he lives in the record books at UKC because of his incredible resume in the bench show ring. His win record starts as an 8-month-old puppy at Winter Classic in 2012, winning Best of Breed at one of UKCs most prestigious shows. From there, he finished to CH while accruing points at the Kentucky State Championship and ultimately coming back to Winter Classic and winning Best Male of Show, a year after his first show.

His road to GRCH was quick. With wins in the Champion Category at the South Carolina, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Illinois State Championships, he made GRCH by June of 2013. I could do this for three or four more paragraphs for Cutter as the dog won at most state and breed championships you can think of from 2013 through 2015, but lets focus on the UKC administered events.

The dog always did well at Winter Classic as weve seen. In addition to the two wins mentioned above, he also won the breed in the Top Ten Show in 2014. In 2013, the dog added to the trophy case and resume by being awarded the Opposite Sex National Grand Champion of Show at Autumn Oaks. Then a year later, the dog was the GRCH of Breed Opposite Sex as well as the Overall Dual Champion at Oaks. Then it was less than a month later in Montpelier, Ohio that Cutter was crowned the 2014 UKC World Champion.

After winning a few more major events in 2015, it seemed like Cutters competition career had ended and what a career it was. He had tons of wins at major events and 29 GRCH wins on record. Then in 2021, Penny broke Cutter out for one more run. I havent talked to her about it, but I would assume that she was looking to get that final recognition and get the deserving Cutter that GRCHHOF title. From February 2021 through April of 2022, Cutter won the final 11 GRCH categories he needed to add his list to the Hall of Fame list as well, finishing to GRCHHOF on his 11th birthday in Trinity, North Carolina. What a career for a special hound.

UKC HUNTING OPS PODCAST

On this past weeks episode of the UKC Hunting Ops Podcast, Allen continued his Undisputed Series with Part 1 of an interview with Dave McVay. Its a great listen for all dog enthusiasts as he goes through some of his favorite Beagles through his lifetime. Most are familiar with Daves work with Purina and have seen him at a lot of coonhound events. Youll enjoy listening to him go through his top hounds.
