UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Edition 20

September 9, 2025

Source: Trevor Wade, Coonhound Program Manager

Welcome back to another edition of the UKC Coonhound Bulletin! The 20th Edition as a matter of fact, I'm glad to see you all are liking it! I dont have much of an introduction this week with Zones baring down on us so lets jump right into the action.

PAST EVENTS

This past weekend was the Kentucky State Youth Championship and the Canadian Autumn Open. Neither of those reports have landed in my inbox as of this morning. When they do, you will find results on the Coonhound Standings/Results page.

Last week, we went over how to find all the results from Autumn Oaks. Pictures from the event are now up on SmugMug with win pictures and candids from the weekend, check them out here: 2025 Autumn Oaks album

UPCOMING EVENTS

This weekend is all about the World Championship Zones. We have eight locations stacked with talented hounds, ready to take their shot and try to advance to the prestigious World Finals, and be one of the last 108 standing. Who will be advancing?? You can see the Zones entry lists here: 2025 Coonhound World Championship Zone Entry List

Good luck to those competing and safe travels to all. We will need 27 knowledgeable judges for Round 1 of the Finals on Thursday the 25th so if you dont make it through or you didnt get qualified to compete, please consider helping out.

Zone cast breakdowns and results will be posted both on the forums and the website over the weekend. It will be easier for me to update the forums in real time while the website results will be updated at the end of the night. Remember, scores wont be posted Saturday until all scorecards are in, in a given zone, or until the return deadline passes. To keep up with all the action:

- Forums (will be stickied at the top by Thursday)
- Coonhound Standings/Results Page

WHATS HAPPENING?

Today, Im just catching up on some lists.

First, I had to update the Money Winners list after the two Autumn Oaks Pro Slams. There was some major shuffling on the list, and you can check it out here: UKC Money Winners

The Top Ten Bench Show Standings had some big shake ups at the top after Autumn Oaks, you can see here: Top Ten Bench Show Standings

After Autumn Oaks, we are up to 716 qualified hounds for TOC, see list here: TOC Qualifier List

And lastly, lets see where we sit for the Triple Crown going into Zones weekend. By my records, two hounds sit atop the leaderboard, having accrued 150 points through their cast wins at Winter Classic and Autumn Oaks. Those two hounds are:

1) NITECH PR Crane Creeks Nitetyme Angel, ENG, F, 3, Jason Snellgrove, Crane, Missouri
2) GRNITECH(4) PR Roses Wild Dreamin Echo, TW, M, 6, Logan Rose, Todd Rose, Jeff Wilson, Tyner, Kentucky

Unforunately for Angel, it looks like her run for the Triple Crown has come to an end as she did not get qualified for the World Championship this year. Still a great year by all accounts. Echo will be competing in the mountains of Rogersville, Tennessee in Zone 5 with a chance to lock this thing up, after knocking on the door the past several years. However, he is not alone. 26 hounds are sitting in 2nd Place, all tied with 100 points, and they still have a fighting chance if Echo falls short in Tennessee. Stranger things have happened. I cant wait to see how it shakes out!

DOG OF THE WEEK

What does it take to make a dog GRNITECHHOF? A bunch of cast wins. Consistently winning casts weekend after weekend. The subject of this weeks Dog of the Week did just that. The dog was the top cast winner in 2023 and was tied for second for the most cast wins in 2024. That is a pretty incredible two year run. The dog we are talking about is GRCH(2) GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Swampthing Honey. Lets find out more about her.

Name: GRCH(2) GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Swampthing Honey
Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound
Date of Birth: 6/10/2020
Owned by: Stacy Smitherman of Centerville, Texas
Bred by: Tom Froese Jr
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- 'PR'WILD SIDE
- GRCH GRNITECH'PR'COMBS WHEELER
--- 'PR'LATCHING LIZ
GRCH(2) GRNITECHHOF'PR'SWAMPTHING HONEY
--- GRNITECH GRCH'PR'GITGOOD'S BUSTER
- GRNITECH GRCH'PR'MOSER'S WHITE ICE
--- GRNITECH'PR'MOSER'S SACKETT'S FLIRT

Honey got a little later start in comparison to some of the other dogs we've talked about here, getting her first cast win 13 days shy of her 2nd birthday in late May 2022. Consistently winning all over Oklahoma, she finished to NITECH quickly in January of 2023. 2023 was an incredible year for the young female. First, she finished to GRNITECH in about 45 days, on March 4, 2023. From there, she continued her run and finished winning 38 casts in the calendar year, leading the way for all UKC hounds in that time period.

The calendar turning to 2024 didnt slow her down much. She achieved an additional 24 wins in 2024, giving her the 2nd most wins in the calendar year, even though she earned her GRNITECHHOF win early in the year, in February of 2024 at a RQE in Mississippi. As we sit today, she hasnt competed much this year with only one cast win at the Texas State Championship for 2025 but with 66 cast wins on her resume, including 53 GRNITECH wins, its safe to say that she has left her mark!

UKC HUNTING OPS PODCAST

We have some really fun podcasts on tap. Hopefully you all enjoyed part two of Allens interview with Rick Stretch that dropped last Wednesday. Tomorrow, the Autumn Oaks recap episode will drop on the feed with Allen and I talking all about Autumn Oaks, including several interviews. Hopefully you all tune into that one. Remember, you can find the podcast on Spotify, Apple, or wherever you get your podcast. Also, we post each one on our UKC YouTube page, you can find here: UKC Youtube
