UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Edition 19

September 2, 2025

Source: Trevor Wade, Coonhound Program Manager
Email: twade@ukcdogs.com

So, for the next few weeks, can we extend days to 36 hours instead of 24? If not, you may have to bear with me a little bit in the next three or four bulletins.

I think everyone in our Hunting Ops Office is riding the high coming off a successful Autumn Oaks. It is probably the first weeklong event where I couldnt find anything to complain about weather wise. Yes, a little rain may have been nice for tracking conditions, but it was an amazing week in the central United States by most all accounts. I enjoyed catching up with everyone and meeting a lot of new people that I have interacted with virtually only over the years. That is the beauty of this event. The diversity of folks that are there is just amazing to see. Folks from all different states, at all different ages, enjoying all different segments of the sport, owning all different breeds of hounds, coming together for a week of fellowship and competition.

The number of people it takes to put on a successful event like this would surprise most. I am going to try my hardest to not forget anyone here with my personal appreciation post, but if I do, I will be sure to add to it later.

  • First and foremost, all the men, women, and children that came and either competed, camped, shopped, or just fellowshipped. Thank you for choosing Autumn Oaks to spend your holiday weekend. We hope you enjoyed yourself!
  • Thank you so much to the staff that makes an event like this go as smooth as possible. Allen Gingerich, Lacey Merriam, Jenna Wade, Nicole Sedlecky, Danielle Champ, Holley Martyniuk, Debbie Scheller, Taylor Armstrong, Parker Radcliffe, Gina Smith, Samantha Harinck, Kristina Shafer, and Chris Ingram were all on hand over the course of the weekend, doing their best to accommodate all the attendees.
  • We also had a couple of professionals there catching photos and videos for us that are the best in their respective businesses, in my opinion: Tracy Chilson and Clayton Stark.
  • I say it all the time but the Field Reps we have on board with us are the best in the business. I cant tell you how much I appreciate them for completing the tedious work that is asked of them over long hours with little sleep. This week we had Doug Cundiff, Tim Gilchrist, Wendell Bond, Curtis Sparks, Jamie Estep, and Brandon Scalf on hand.
  • With the added Thursday Specialty Bench Show, we actually had four Bench Show Judges this year instead of two, and all are very much appreciated. We had Scarlett Leigh and Heath Hyatt on Thursday and then Corey Gruver and Elizabeth Stocker Phipps over the weekend.
  • Thank you to Hannas Creek Conservation Club for hosting Tuesdays Slam and then to Delaware County Coonhunters for hosting the Wednesday and Thursday Slams.
  • Thank you to the host clubs of the weekends Autumn Oaks: Wayne County Coon Hunters Association, Limberlost Coonhunters Club, Van Wert County Coonhunters Association, and Clark County Coonhunters Club. Really, there are way more clubs that also need credit for their guide support, but I fear I would leave someone off, hopefully you individually know how much we appreciate you. You are the lifeblood of this event.
  • It should be said, thank you to the states of Indiana and Ohio and especially the landowners and the state wildlife officers for making an event like this possible. Without readily available land, we cant have this hunt, and it seems every year, the list of areas in the country that can host an event like this gets smaller and smaller.
  • This is the spot where I have to thank the guides and judges for the weekend. Thank you for your help in ensuring we had a great hunt. A special thanks goes out to the non-hunting guides and judges in the Pro Slam for stepping up for us, Darrel Workman, Trace Searles, Clayton Alvord, Chet McCreary, Dustin Feaster, Donnie Huber, and Ron Mitchell. And then also the guides and judges for the Grand 16, Darrel Workman, Deric Compton, Jason Bowling, Shorty Tinsman, Payton Tinsman, and Rodney McCracken.
  • And speaking of Pro Slams, thank you to Lyndell Price for letting us use his name for Wednesday's Pro Slam, and to Bryan Whitted for letting us use Mr. Clean's name for Thursday's Pro Slam. I believe they were both great representations of our sport and deserved the honor of being recognized by those prestigious hunt.
  • The staff at the Wayne County Fairgrounds are so accommodating and so easy to deal with, I appreciate their efforts every year.
  • Thank you to the vendors who came and set up, it was a great, diverse selection for all and really adds to the overall event. It seems the level of apparel and equipment just keeps advancing somehow and you never know what new item will pop up at Autumn Oaks. Hopefully you all did well and will be back next year. I also have to thank the food vendors for coming out. In just a few years, several of those food trucks have grown a big following amongst our crowd with their good food and customer service.
  • I mentioned the sponsors last week but I think I need to here as well, Bad Habit Hunting Supply, Bright Eyes Lights Inc, Coondog Wear, Dan's Hunting Gear, Dark: 30 Hunting Supply, Diamond Deluxe, Dog & Hunt Supply, Houndsman Advantage, Kelley's K-Light Supply, Mule Brand Gear and Apparel, Okie Dog Supply LLC, Outlaw Light Company, Owens Products, Yoder Nylon, and Zepp's Coon Squallers. And of course, Eukanuba, the Official Dog Nutrition Partner of UKC. With your help, the awards were great yet again!
  • I appreciate the volunteers from the breed associations for having nice booths and tables set up and being there Sunday morning to help us reward the overall winners from the hunt.

My brain is foggy but hopefully I didnt leave anyone out. It really is a ton of small moving pieces working in unison and if you guided, judged, sang, cooked, cleaned, etc, thank you for being a part of the 66th Annual Autumn Oaks.

DOG(S) OF THE WEEK

I had a cool interaction with Mike Seets at Autumn Oaks after I selected his hound, Preacher John the Rock, for last weeks dog of the week. Its cool how something that can take up only a portion of my day can touch someone so deeply. We should all make it a habit to give people their credit and flowers. Most times, we wait too long.

For this week, Im just going to share the profiles from the biggest winners from last weeks Autumn Oaks. There is a chance we can go more in depth in later weeks, but for now, I thought we might all be interested to learn more about these hounds.

Be on the lookout for the Autumn Oaks recap episode which will be coming out soon!

UKCs ALL-QUARTER CENTURY CAST
