UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Edition 17

August 19, 2025

One week from today, Ill be pulling into the Wayne County Fairgrounds for the 66th Annual Autumn Oaks. I tried to ask an AI platform on my phone for five of the most impactful events in our country since 1960 in several different ways and I dont know what I was hoping for, but the results I got didnt put the imagery to the significance that I was looking for. So many amazing and horrific things have happened in the past 66 years. The moon landing, wars, natural disasters, significant achievement and advancement both individually and collectively. Simply put, a lot of things that positively and negatively affected the world we live in. Yet, coonhunters have always been able to depend on a weekend getaway on Labor Day weekend with a couple thousand others that have similar interests and live similar lifestyles to them, from all over the country. How neat is that?

Just because I have it pulled up. The median cost of living in 1960; 1) household income - $5,600/year, 2) a gallon of milk, loaf of bread, and a dozen eggs - $1.72, 3) buying a new home - $12,700, 4) a gallon of gas 31 cents, 4) a new car - $2,600, and lastly 5) tuition to an in-state public university - $1,490 per year. Remember, we are talking about the median cost so dont jump on me with receipts, Im relying on the internet as I wasnt quite around yet, just want to highlight how much times have changed in these 66 years since that first Autumn Oaks. Anyways, let me put google away and lets get to the bulletin.

PAST EVENTS

As of typing, I dont have Iowa State Championship or Minnesota State Youth Championship results. When I do, they will be on the Standings/Results page here: Coonhound Standings and Results

I spent the bulk of my Friday and Saturday nights working with Tracy Thompson and the Reading Coonhunters Association, as they were putting on their second Bandit Bash UKC Pro Slam. After two nights and four rounds of stiff competition in one of the most game filled areas of the country, the dog left standing and earning the $7,500 payday was GRNITECH PR Skuna River Tiny, a 2-year-old Treeing Walker female owned by Jack Maggard of London, Kentucky and handled by Eric Piatt. Here are your final placements:

1st Place $7,500 - GRNITECH PR Skuna River Tiny, TW, F, 2, Jack Maggard, KY, Handled by Eric Piatt
2nd Place $3,200 - NITECH PR Ringtail Bustin Cotton, TW, M, 1, Tracy Thompson, MI, Handled by Tracy Thompson
3rd Place $2,000 - NITECH PR Ringtails Wondering Wanda, TW, F, 2, Tracy Thompson, MI, Handled by Mike Ream

Semi-Finalists ($1,000 each)
GRNITECH(2) PR Double Whacked Black Jack, TW, M, 5, AJ Brenner, OH, Handled by Rickey Bryant Jr
GRNITECH(2) PR Stylish Dirty Dave, TW, M, 6, Johnny Roberts, TN, Handled by Kyle Brown
NITECH PR Set Em Up Peppy, TW, F, 3, Daniel Wilson, IN, Handled by Jared Miller
NITECH PR Leap of Faith, TW, F, 3, Jeremy Kollek, MI, Handled by Jeremy Kollek
GRNITECH PR Double Shot on the Rox, TW, F, 5, Earl Hochstetler, IN, Handled by Earl Hochstetler
GRNITECH PR Beaver Creeks Dirty Tramp, TW, F, 3, Trevor Towns, OH, Handled by Trevor Towns

For cast breakdowns and photos from the event, see the results here: 2025 Bandit Bash

Also, in last weeks bulletin I misspoke and said that the Dog Days Pro Slam in Ocala, Florida was trending to not be filled. Well, they stepped up to the plate and got five entries on the last day sold, making their hunt a go. Huge shoutout to Malcolm Rains and the entire Central Florida Coonhunters Association for putting the effort in to get the entries sold. The overall winner there was NITECH PR Heather Island Hot Nu Cowboy, a 7-year-old Treeing Walker male owned by Ike Rainey and Malcolm Rains of Ocala, Florida and handled by James Wright. Here are the final placements:

1st Place $1,800 - NITECH PR Heather Island Hot Nu Cowboy, TW, M, 7, Ike Rainey, Malcolm Rains, FL, Handled by James Wright
2nd Place $750 - NITECH PR Heather Island Jack, ENG, M, 3, Ike Rainey, Malcolm Rains, FL, Handled by Ty Cargile
3rd Place $500 - PR Heather Island Z-Pac, TW, M, 2, Ike Rainey, Malcolm Rains, FL, Handled by Oliver Winn

For photos from the event, see the results here: Dog Days Pro Slam

Also, these two Pro Slams definitely shook up the Money Winners list on UKCs website. I have a feeling the Autumn Oaks Pro Slams will shake it up even more. Give it a look here: UKC Money Winners

DOG OF THE WEEK

In my very first Dog of the Week in this bulletin a few months back, we talked about the first dog to achieve that GRNITECHHOF title, Fabous River Katie. One of my first topics to write about in Coonhound Bloodlines as an employee of United Kennel Club was two dogs that were GRNITECHHOF as soon as the title was implemented. Both dogs ran the Missouri Federation Race heavy and were racking up cast wins before it was cool to do so with no multiplier titles available. That second dog is going to be this weeks Dog of the Week, CH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Wildman Sam I Am.

Name: CH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Wildman Sam I Am
Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound
Date of Birth: 9/19/2013
Owned by: Gary Potts of Versailles, Missouri
Bred by: Gary Potts
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- NITECH 'PR' Potts' Wild Man Sam
- GRCH GRNITECH 'PR' Wild Man Sam II
--- 'PR' Young Guns Little Gidget
CH GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Wildman Sam I Am
--- GRNITECH PR Sheets Stylish Digger
- NITECH CH 'PR' Smith's Abby Girl
--- NITECH PR Bennetts Reba II

Sam jumped into competition hunting success at a young age, achieving his first cast win two weeks shy of a year old, in September of 2014. He turned right around and finished to a NITECH just a couple months later in November of 2014. He knocked out the five cast wins needed to finish to GRNITECH in April of 2016. Sam stayed hot through his three- to five-year-old years, finishing to GRNITECHOF before the achievement was acknowledged back in August of 2018.

Like I mentioned in the first paragraph, when I interviewed Gary, it was evident that the driving force of his compiling wins was pushing for the Missouri Federation points. He achieved wins at nearly 15 different clubs in the state of Missouri with Sam during this stretch run. With his nite hunt success, Sam I Am will be remembered as one of the first to reach that GRNITECHHOF title.

UKC HUNTING OPS PODCAST

Im pumped to get some new coonhound content on the podcast feed. Allen and I have big plans to get a lot of quality interviews and coverage at next weeks Autumn Oaks. Stay tuned to the feed!

I am planning on starting a series about some historical clubs out there. I would love some feedback on some clubs that your feel should be featured in this podcast series. Email it those clubs to me at twade@ukcdogs.com with a little back history if you would.

UKCS ALL-QUARTER CENTURY CAST

For the second week in a row GRNITECH 'PR' 7 Oaks Hardtime Lola bests the crowd of hounds shes competing against and this week, she secures her spot in UKCs All-Quarter Century Cast with an amazing 39.3% of the vote. What a cool accomplishment for a memorable dog. So Lola and GRNITECH(2) PR Willys Little Ann have got half of the spots in the cast locked down. Who is going to join her?

Its time to start sorting through the Autumn Oaks winners from this quarter century. Fitting time to start with Autumn Oaks next week. This weeks poll is going to feature the Autumn Oaks National Grand Nite Champions from 2000 through 2004.
