UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Edition 14

July 29, 2025

Source: Trevor Wade, Coonhound Program Manager
Email: twade@ukcdogs.com

Its bulletin time! I appreciate everyone who comes here for their weekly UKC Coonhound Program news. I dont have a ton of introductory stuff to say today so lets jump right in.

PAST EVENTS

Like we have been discussing, we are in a little bit of the slow time for major events. This past weekend there were no events listed on Major Event Schedule or Youth Championship Schedule. I guess its a good time to say, if you think there is an event that is not listed that you think should be, shoot me an email.

I will say, the RQE Schedule has remained pretty steady. As the reports roll in from the host club and are processed, I type up each one and post them on our forums. You can see all RQE results from the year (that have been processed) right here: 2025 RQE Results

UPCOMING EVENTS

Once again, there is nothing on the major event scene this weekend. One event I have been seeing advertisements for is US Redbone Days in Calhoun, Illinois. Thats typically an event that has a good number of hounds entered in both the hunt and show. If you are searching for something to do, go support the event. I can assure you the East Richland CHA, National Redbone Coonhound Association, and American Redbone Coonhound Association would all appreciate the support. You can find details HERE.

It looks like there are 3 YEP events this weekend. You can always use the Coonhound Events Calendar to search event type, date, location, etc. and find the event that is right for you. You can access it here: Coonhound Events Calendar

With one month left to qualify your dog for the 2025 Coonhound World Championship, there are only 28 qualifiers remaining by my count. And with it being the dog days of summer we are in, there are only two opportunities to get your dog qualified this weekend. One is in Vale, North Carolina and the other is in Pittsburg, Kentucky. Good luck to everyone on getting qualified, dont miss the big dance because you procrastinated and missed your shot.

DOG OF THE WEEK

In last weeks bulletin, we featured the only NGRNCH/GRNITECHHOF in UKCs history. Well, it turns out there is also only one NGRCH/GRCHHOF dog in UKCs history, and that hound will be this weeks Dog of the Week. We are talking about a Bluetick Coonhound out of Arkansas, NGRCH CCH GRCHHOF 'PR' Spanky's Rockin Blue Popacap. Lets find out a little more about Popacap.

Name: NGRCH CCH GRCHHOF 'PR' Spanky's Rockin Blue Popacap
Breed: Bluetick Coonhound
Date of Birth: 1/10/2012
Owned by: Lory Galbreath, Autumn Huffman, Kris Tracy of Cabot, Arkansas
Bred by: Whitney Killough
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- GRNITECH GRCH 'PR' Razor Ridge Pop a Top
- GRCH 'PR' Razor Ridge Pop a Top Again
--- 'PR' Hamlin's Blue Bonnie
NGRCH CCH GRCHHOF 'PR' Spanky's Rockin Blue Popacap
--- NITECH 'PR' Blackfork Highwind
- GRNITECH GRCH 'PR' Tree Thumpin Amazing Grace
--- CH 'PR' Roberts Blue Cindy

Popacap didnt waste any time making his presence felt, securing the first points of his competition showing career as a 7-month-old puppy at the 2012 Autumn Oaks. Just a couple months later, he was able to finish the first leg of the title arch, by earning his CH title in May of 2013 at the Arkansas State Championship. A little under two years later, as a 3-year-old, Popacap earned his GRCH title, with his five wins coming at a bevy of major events including the BBCHA Spring Round Up, Arkansas State, Missouri State, and an impressive Champion win at the 2015 Winter Classic. After securing that GRCH title, Popacap was pushed all over the country and secured a ton of impressive feats. By my count, he made GRCHHOF in April of 2019 at the annual St. Judes Coon Hunt in Parsons, Tennessee.

I could write a two-page essay detailing his wins, which are as impressive as any you will see. But for the sake of the bulletin, we are going to focus on a few UKC administered events. Popacap won the Bluetick Breed in the Top Ten Bench Show three times, 2018, 2019, and 2020. He was very successful in Batesville at the Winter Classic, with the 2015 CH Male win we mentioned, a 2019 Pairs Overall Win, and being GRCH Male and the Overall Winner of the Winter Classic in 2017. That same year Popacap was also the Bluetick Male breed winner at the World Championship. In 2016 Popacap was awarded as the GRCH Bluetick of Autumn Oaks, and then in 2019 he was Opposite Sex GRCH Bluetick of Autumn Oaks. In his magical 2017 run, he was able to secure that NGRCH title and win National Grand Champion of Autumn Oaks. What a great career for a once in a lifetime hound!
