UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Edition 12

It is Youth Nationals week! One of my favorite events of the year. While Im typing this up on a Monday night, Im planning my travel routes, what to pack, and my game plan for the weekend. Anyone who puts on an event knows how it is. You can do all the planning in the world but who will show up? And what help will you have? That will make or break your event. I will check back in next week, but I feel confident with Jamie Estep as my Master of Hounds, Tiffany Adkins as my Bench Show Judge, Hannah Cable as my helper for the weekend, and with the host clubs having so many good folks to help headlined by my points of contact, Angie and Kevin Cable, and Tyler Stroh, I anticipate a great weekend. You know what else goes a long way? Sponsors. Lets talk about them for this weekends Youth Nationals.

This conversation has to start with Bright Eyes Lights. Ray Conrad and his team have been sponsors of United Kennel Club for a very long time and one thing that he is passionate about sponsoring is the youth. He has been the presenting sponsor of the Next Generation Spotlight Series since its inception back in 2015-2016. And I cant speak towards Youth Nationals; Allen would be a better source of information here than me. But I know that every Youth Nationals I have been to, there have been 20 Bright Eyes Lights on the prize table for the top ten placements in the hunt for each night. Thank you to Ray and Bright Eyes Lights for their sponsorship and continued support of UKCs youth programs!

I also have to mention Carolina Coon Hunters and Dans Hunting Gear. Ive known Jeremy Davis with CCH for several years now and anytime I need anything for the youth, he is there to help out. As I type, I have a couple bags of hats and vests for the kids this weekend. His Avery Outdoors line is made up of great equipment but more than that, is an awesome tribute to a true outdoorsman and lover of the sport that was taken too soon, Avery Davis. Then there is Dans Hunting Gear which has supplied us with so many jackets over the years. The plan is to be able to award the Spotlight Series jackets from Dans at the event and then put in another order for our National Champions on Monday morning after the event.

Lastly, I want to mention the Official Performance Dog Nutrition Partner of UKC, Eukanuba. They typically set us up with some great food to give to the kids on this weekend each year. And of course, I have to thank the folks at United Kennel Club that have supported the youth, and in the 24 years of this event, have awarded $220,000 in tuition awards to the winners in the 24-year history of the event. This year will push that mark up to $230,000.

PAST EVENTS

From all that I have seen, the trio of youth state championships this past weekend went well. I dont have official results in yet, but when I do, they will be added on here along with all the other results: Coonhound Standings/Results

UPCOMING EVENTS

This weekend is kind of a light weekend when you look at the Events Calendar. Which is awesome to hear for me. I feel like most of the spotlight should be on this weekends Youth Nationals. As far as regular events go, there is just a couple scrolls of them. As far as Regional Qualifying Events, there are only two on the schedule for this weekend, one in Mississippi and one in Iowa. I hope to see you all in Milton, Indiana at the 25th Annual UKC Youth Nationals.

You wont read a bulletin over the next couple of months where I dont talk about Autumn Oaks and the World Championship. Lets start with Autumn Oaks.

Entries have been open for a couple weeks now and we have had quite a few entries come in. Remember, the event ad is full of information. You have until midnight EST on Monday, August 11th to enter into one of the events taking pre-entries; the Friday/Saturday portion of the Nite Hunt, the Thursday Non-Licensed Specialty Bench Show, the National Dual Championship, or the weekends Bench Show. Out of those events, remember that the National Dual Championship is capped at 100 dogs so theoretically it could be filled before the pre-entry deadline. The last I checked we were closing in on a quarter of the way filled so dont wait too late. For all things Autumn Oaks or to enter: Autumn Oaks

The World Championship entries have been coming in slightly slower than Autumn Oaks entries, which makes sense with the date being later, as well as the entry deadline. Remember, the deadline to enter your qualified hound is Tuesday, September 2nd at midnight EST. If you havent taken the time to look at the web page or event ad, the eight zone locations are the same as last year:
Zone 1 Quincy, Michigan
Zone 2 Jefferson, Ohio
Zone 3 Flora, Illinois
Zone 4 Sedalia, Missouri
Zone 5 Rogersville, Tennessee
Zone 6 Coffeeville, Mississippi
Zone 7 Orangeburg, South Carolina
Zone 8 Powderly, Texas (right beside Paris, TX)

For all things or to enter the 2025 Coonhound World Championship: Coonhound World Championship

Lastly, I updated the list of Hall of Fame titled dogs yesterday. Find the new list here: UKC Coonhound Hall of Fame

DOG OF THE WEEK

As of the latest update to the Hall of Fame list, which was yesterday on 7/14, there were 42 dogs that had achieved the GRNITECHOF title. Of those 42, 22 of them had achieved at least a Champion title to go along with it. Keep breaking it down, and we are left with two hounds that achieved the dual HOF titles in the hunt and the show. One of those two was our first dog of the week in the 7th edition of the bulletin, GRCHHOF GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Hardys Fabous River Katie HTX2. The other will be the subject of todays bulletin, GRCHHOF GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Caldwells Southern Belle HTX3. Lets meet this weeks dog.

Name: GRCHHOF GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Caldwells Southern Belle HTX3
Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound
Date of Birth: 3/19/2018
Owned by: Phil Roberts and Kelley Hosch of Clarkesville, Georgia
Bred by: James Dowdy
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- FCH WCH NITECH 'PR' Ogeechee River (TT) Ranger
- 'PR' Dowdy's Etowah River Fatboy
--- NITECH FCH WCH GRCH 'PR' Speartooth Poca Pocahontas
GRCHHOF GRNITECHHOF 'PR' Caldwells Southern Belle HTX3
--- GRCH GRNITECH 'PR' High X-Pectations
- 'PR' Dowdys Etowah River Jenny
--- 'PR' Ole Stylish Bonnie

Belle earned her first title back in February of 2020, making NITECH just shy of her 2nd birthday. Less than 9-months later, she was able to take the next step and make GRNITECH in November of 2020. Incredibly, Belle was able to achieve the remaining 37 GRNITECH wins by April of 2022 and finish to GRNITECHHOF, 27 months after her first UKC cast win. She currently sits with 68 cast wins, including 55 GRNITECH wins.

Belle won her first category on the bench, shortly after her first cast win, in January of 2020. She was a CH by May of 2020 and a GRCH by March of 2021. She finished to GRCHHOF a year after achieving her GRNITECHHOF title, in April of 2023. She currently sits with 41 GRCH wins on her record.

As a 7-year-old hound, Belle is still being pushed on the hunt side of things. Just this year she has achieved cast wins at the Grand American, Southeastern Treeing Walker Days, and a RQE in North Carolina which qualifies her for the World Zones for the 4th time in her career. And with five cast wins on her record this year, I could almost bet we will see her trying for that TOC title next year.
