UKC Coonhound Weekly Bulletin, Episode 11

July 8, 2025

Welcome back everyone! Depending on where you are, you could be dealing with the summer heat or loads of rainfall. In some places, both. The weather has been unpredictable for much of the spring and summer so far. Having said that, I would like to say my familys thoughts and prayers are going out to those in Texas who have lost so much with the flooding. The accounts and videos of what happened are hard to stomach. I think I speak for most if not all when I say that I am so appreciative of the first responders and other civilians who have risked their life for the possibility of saving another.

On a less somber note, I hope everyone had an awesome Independence Day weekend! I had a great time with the family, as we all had a weekend off together, which was rare the past couple of months. The girls found a new love for bang snaps and sparklers. Between that, ice cream, and swimming, they lived it up. Now lets jump into some UKC Coonhound news.

PAST EVENTS

Like we talked about last week, there were only two events this weekend on the Major Event or Youth Championship schedules. I was able to get results for the Illinois State Youth Championship thanks to Kevin Stocke. Im still waiting for the New Hampshire State Youth Championship at this moment.

- Illinois State Youth Championship
- New Hampshire State Youth Championship (still waiting for results)

UPCOMING EVENTS

With July 4th weekend in the rearview, the events pick up slightly this coming weekend. There are three youth championships (that are double Spotlight Series points events) and eight world qualifiers in eight different states this Saturday including FL, IL, IA, OH, OK, PA, TN, and WI. Again, opportunities to qualify are getting slim so either get in or youll have to sit out this September.

- Indiana State Youth Championship in Morgantown, Indiana
- Michigan State Youth Championship in Battle Creek, Michigan
- New York State Youth Championship in Van Etten, New York

Anyone who will is willing and able, Id love for you to email the reports from the event to twade@ukcdogs.com. Thank you!

WHATS HAPPENING?

Though we are in a slow spot of the calendar, that doesnt mean that things arent going on. Right now plans and preparations are being made for three of UKCs biggest events of the year, the UKC Youth Nationals, Autumn Oaks, and the Coonhound World Championship. Lets briefly mention each of them.

I have been bugging Angie Cable and Tyler Stroh, who are my points of contact at Wayne County, regularly about the upcoming Youth Nationals. They are putting together some great items for a raffle that kids will join as they enter the events. I also hear that they will be having free sno-cones on sight. And although the extended forecast doesnt look that bad compared to some previous years, we know how quickly that can change and how hot it can get in late July. For the event ad with all the information you will need, go here: Youth Nationals. I hope to see you all there!

Autumn Oaks entries have been open for a little over a week now and there is only a little over a month left to go. Be sure you check out the event ad for all the important information from the weekend. One thing that we dont want to get lost in the ad is the satellite clubs that will be utilized on Friday and Saturday nights. You will have the two mainstays, Bryant, Indiana (Limberlost Coonhunters Club) and Convoy, Ohio (Van Wert County Coonhunters Association) that will supplying guides for Autumn Oaks again this year, which always produce quality casts and coon treeing opportunities for those that get drawn there. This year, however, we have a new club that is going to be a satellite for us and that is the Medway, Ohio club (Clark County Coonhunters Club). This will open up some territory for hunters further east, northeast of Dayton. Thank you to Austin Terrell and the rest of the club for stepping in. For all things Autumn Oaks or to simply enter the event, go here: Autumn Oaks

Similarly, World Championship entries opened last week and weve had entries steadily rolling in. Hearing from Matt Lingo occasionally, it sounds like the club and community are ready to host us all and plans are shaping up for this to be an exceptional World Finals. For the event ad or to enter: Coonhound World Championship

Two Pro Slams have entries opening next week, and both are in great areas. Hopefully you guys jump in and not only support these clubs but win some money and get some recognition.

As I do every other Tuesday, the UKC Tournament of Champions Qualifier List and Top Ten Bench Show Standings were both updated this morning. This week's TOC update saw a jump of 66 dogs over the last update, as there are now 429 qualified dogs. That puts us slightly over last year's record pace at the time being. You can see the list of TOC Qualified Dogs here: UKC Tournament of Champions List of Qualified Dogs

After a few great Redbone Days shows, and some other events that trickled in, the Top Ten Bench Show Standings saw some shaking and moving. You can see the latest update here: Top Ten Bench Show Coonhounds

DOG OF THE WEEK

I had plans to go in a different direction this week but just couldn't do it. Its nearly impossible to mention one without the other so after talking about Mr Clean last week, its only natural that I mention the other dog to win both Autumn Oaks and the World Championship this week, WLDNITECH NGRNCH GRNITECH 'PR' Hannas Creek Feelin' Frisky. I never had the opportunity to see Frisky go, but she will always be a hound that I remember fondly. She was on the cover of the first ever issue of Coonhound Bloodlines I pulled out of my mailbox, the November 2012 issue after winning the World Championship. Lets find out a little more about her.

Name: WLDNITECH NGRNCH GRNITECH 'PR' Hannas Creek Feelin' Frisky
Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound
Date of Birth: 7/2/2008
Owned by: Jody Jessup and Bryan Whitted of Rural Hall, North Carolina
Bred by: Terry Vance
Three-Generation Pedigree:
--- WLDNITECH GRCH GRNITECH 'PR' Rock River Gap
- GRNITECH GRCH 'PR' Vance's Battlewood Joe Brown
--- 'PR' Vance's Battlewood Sue
WLDNITECH NGRNCH GRNITECH 'PR' Hannas Creek Feelin' Frisky
--- GRCH GRNITECH 'PR' Stylish Harry Jr
- 'PR' Stylish Hag
--- GRNITECH 'PR' Rat Attacks Hanna

Frisky earned her NITECH title a few months short of her 2nd birthday in May of 2010. She quickly blew through the requirements of earning her GRNITECH title, achieving that feat in August of 2010. Most of those eight cast wins happened at the local level, including qualifying for the World Championship with a RQE win in Cardington. Things were about to change quickly for the two-year-old hound as she made GRNITECH just in time to compete in the September 2010 Autumn Oaks.

At 2 years, and 2 months old, Frisky showed up to Autumn Oaks and put on a show. She scored 1,300+ on Friday night to advance to the first ever Grand 16 in the history of the event. She continued her run through Saturday nights rounds and ended up being the 2010 National Grand Nite Champion of Autumn Oaks.

After a run in the World Finals in 2011 that saw her end up with an 18th Place finish, Frisky was right back at the Finals the following year in 2012. That run would culminate in her being crowned the 2012 World Champion in Shreveport, Louisiana. She would win a lot of casts at major events all over the country in her time competing. The crown achievement of winning both Autumn Oaks and the World Championship puts her on a level that only a couple dogs have achieved and puts her on the short list of most accomplished coonhounds ever.

UKC HUNTING OPS PODCAST

With all the traveling to breed days the past six or eight weeks, I have struggled getting fresh content for the podcast. I apologize for that. Last week and this weeks podcasts will be episodes by Domenick Muoio, who is the Program Manager over Shed Dog, Pointing Dogs, and Retrievers. I will say, Allen and I taped an issue to go out next week where we announce the winners of the 2024-25 Spotlight Series and also preview Youth Nationals briefly. I hope you all give that a listen.

UKCs ALL-QUARTER CENTURY CAST

After a tight race in week one, we have our first winner and the first member of the UKC All-Quarter Century Cast, GRNITECH(2) PR Willys Little Ann. She bested an absolute stacked field of TOC Champions to earn her spot in the final cast by securing 57.89% of your votes. Who will join her?
