1. A breeder of Dutch Shepherds had a litter of four puppies. One pup looked nothing like her siblings. In the past, such a litter could not have been registered because it was impossible to tell by visual inspection alone which, if any, of the pups were purebred. Thanks to DNA testing, it was shown that the odd pup was not the offspring of the registered sire but the remaining puppies were. The breeder now has a U.K.C.-registered litter of three Dutch Shepherd puppies.

2. A breeder of American Pit Bull Terriers saw a five-month-old male puppy breeding a female. Despite doubts about the ability of such a young male to sire a litter, the breeder soon had seven puppies to register. U.K.C. requested a DNA test which proved that an older kennel mate had sired the litter. Correct registration papers could then be issued to the breeder.
