Registration Frequently Asked Questions

Register a new dog with UKC i.e. dual register(How to)?
A dog not already registered with UKC as part of a litter, and whose parents are not both UKC
registered, may be eligible for Single Registration. The rules vary depending on breed; view
your breed's registration requirements at the top of the breed's online UKC breed standard

The general requirements for Single Registration are as follows:
1. Completed UKC Application for Single Registration (at http://www.ukcdogs.com/res/pdf/fo6adm.pdf)
2. Photocopy of your dog’s registration certificate from a UKC acknowledged registry.
For all breeds we acknowledge AKC, The Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club and any FCI registry
3. The dog's complete three generation pedigree (photocopy or handwritten)

In general, these requirements are needed to register your dog with UKC.
Examinations and DNA profiling are not sufficient to register a dog.
A dog without a complete three generation pedigree and registration with an approved registry
will not be considered for registration with UKC. Any dog registered under a non-breeding contract
(limited registration) will be required to submit three color photographs of the dog.

Again, check your breed's specific requirements before submitting for Single Registration.
If you are unable to provide all of the listed requirements, you may list your dog through
our Limited Privilege program if the dog has been spayed or neutered.

I have lost my papers - How do I get a replacement certificate?
Another copy of the registration papers may be obtained by the current owner of record by
completing an Application for Duplicate (Replacement) Registration Papers
Only the owner(s) on record may apply for duplicate papers. Once a duplicate registration
certificate has been issued the original certificate is considered null and void and will no longer be
accepted by UKC. Note: If the dog is registered in a co-ownership (regardless if it is an “and”
or “or” partnership) both partners must sign the Application for Duplicate Registration.

What are the fees and registration options on my Application for Permanent Registration
To transfer a UKC registered dog into your name, simply complete the bill of sale portion of the
UKC Registration Certificate and mail in the original certificate with the appropriate fees.
Please note that the "Bill of Sale" must include the signature(s) of the current Owner(s) of Record
as indicated on the front of the certificate. Below is our current registration packages

How can I change my dog's registered name?
You may change a dogs name as often as you like provided he/she has not earned any titles or
has any offspring registered with UKC. You will need to return the original registration certificate
indicating the dog’s new name and the appropriate fee to make the change.
See rules regarding naming your dog.

      Bluetick Coonhound

UKC's third most widely registered breed is the Bluetick Coonhound. It is most likely that the Bluetick is principally descended from the quick foxhounds of England with some introduction of the blood of various French hounds which were used for hunting big game. The French dogs were known as being very cold nosed. George Washington received five such French hounds from General Lafayette. Blueticks were originally registered with UKC as English. In 1946, at the request of the Bluetick fanciers, UKC began registering Blueticks as a separate breed.
