Travel Tips for You & Your Dog

When the family goes on vacation, so does Fido!

Here are a few helpful tips to assist you with making this the best summer vacation yet:
  • Plan ahead. If you are driving to your vacation destination, it may be a good idea to contact the Convention and Visitors Bureau in that area for a listing of pet-friendly lodgings.
  • Be sure to pack all Fido’s paperwork, including current health certificates, license and proof of vaccinations, along with your veterinarian's phone number.
  • It’s always a good idea to research veterinary clinics around your vacation destination. In an emergency, it will make the situation a little easier to handle.
  • Make sure Fido wears his collar with his identification tags and that your name, address and phone number are on those tags.
  • As we need to stop and stretch our legs every once in awhile, so does your dog. Remember, when the family stops, never leave your dog in the car unattended, especially in the summer heat.
  • Remember to keep Fido on a leash, no matter how well trained your dog is, a new place plus new smells can equal trouble.
  • Just like the family, Fido has things he needs for the trip; such as:

    • Dog food (seems obvious, but to avoid undue changes to his system, be sure to bring the dog food he normally eats)
    • Water bowl – pet supply stores carry great no-spill travel water bowls that are easy to store.
    • Treat and/or toys.
    • Crate and/or favorite bed or blanket.
    • Clean up bags.

The Redbone is known to be a well-balanced breed, making them adaptable to various types of hunting and terrain. Their agility benefits them when hunting in fenced country or steep, rocky ground.
