2007's Top Ten UKC Breeds Registered As of January 18, 2008

With over 12,000 licensed events annually, the United Kennel Club is the world’s largest performance dog registry and second oldest all-breed registry in the United States.
Founded in 1898, the UKC has supported the "Total Dog" philosophy through its events and programs for over a century. As a departure from registries that place emphasis solely on a dog’s looks, UKC events are designed for dogs who look and perform equally well.
Our mission is to be the world's best registry of purebred dogs, to offer our customers the most efficient and creative services possible, to use our data to help our customers breed the best dogs in the world and to create a wide spectrum of performance and conformation events in which those dogs can prove their instincts and heritage.
With that said, the United Kennel Club is pleased to announce its list of top dog breeds for 2007. This list, based on UKC registration figures, reflects the Performance Dog philosophy that is the backbone of United Kennel Club. Truly – “Our Dogs Do Stuff!”

Of the six breeds of UKC registered Coonhounds, only the Plott Hound doesn’t trace its ancestry to the foxhound; and of the breeds, we can be most certain of the Plott’s heritage and the men most responsible for its development.
The ancestors of today’s Plott were used for boar hunting in Germany many years ago. Jonathon Plott left his native Germany and came to this country in 1750. For the rest of the story behind the modern Plott Hound, follow this link. |
