Dear Penelope:
Q
I have a mixed bred dog and would like to start doing something enjoyable with him. What can I do that is fun and can I possibly earn any awards for my dog?
A
UKC has many wonderful and exciting events you and your dog can participate in. Mixed bred dogs can earn agility, obedience, weight pull, and dock jumping titles while having an awesome time at UKC events. Our award certificates are always of a quality worthy of framing or will look fabulous in your dog’s scrapbook. | |

Q
My friend rescued a mutt from the dog pound; she loves diving for toys and swimming in their back yard pool. I have a purebred Doberman that participates in the UKC dock jumping events and is almost a Champion. My friend wants to start traveling with me to shows. Can her dog participate too?
A
OH MY! Yes indeed, we need to get her in a dock jumping event! Soon she will be on her way to earning a Dock Jumping Championship title too. UKC promotes the total dog philosophy; her dog does not have to be a purebred dog to have fun here! Click here for more info. |
Q
Our family pet is a Labradoodle named Sophia, she is not registered anywhere as a purebred dog. My children would like to show her as a project, can we do this and how?
A
Your Labradoodle, Sophia is welcome at UKC events. Since you have children, they can show her in Junior Showmanship. Kids all over the country compete for Total Junior or just have fun showing. This is a great way for kids to meet other kids who love showing their dogs! Click here to download Total Junior applications. Click here to download an application to get Sophia listed in the UKC Limited Privilege program.

Q
Exactly what events can my mixed bred dog compete in?
A
A reader after my own heart!! Your Heinz 57® can compete to its hearts’ content in Weight Pull, Agility, Obedience, Dog Sport, Dock Jumping, and possibly any other future Performance events added by UKC. |
Q
Do you allow companion dogs and designer dogs to show or participate at your events?
A
Definitely, in fact UKC encourages it! Having a dog who sits on your lap is great and I’m all for that, but getting out in the fresh air and sunshine with other die hard canine fans ROCKS! Click here to find out how to get listed and start having fun!

The Golden Retriever was developed in late 19th century Scotland and England primarily by crossing Flat- and Wavy-coated Retrievers, Tweed Water Spaniels, and a red Setter. The Golden was bred by British aristocrats to be a dual purpose dog, able to retrieve waterfowl and upland game birds and also to be a companion. The Golden Retriever's friendly disposition, attractive appearance, and high level of trainability have made this breed one of the most popular in the United States. The Golden Retriever was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1956. |
