Make a first aid kit for your dog
How do you feel in an emergency? Be it yourself, a family member or your pet? Well-prepared, moderately prepared or ill prepared? Whichever level of preparedness you are at, we have compiled some helpful tips so you are ready in any emergency. One should always have at the very least a bare bones first aid kit available at all times. Many of the items you would need in a first aid kit for your dog, could be used in an emergency for you or a family member.
Some of the items needed in a doggie first aid kit would be:
- Gauze rolls and pads
- Bandage rolls
- First aid tape
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Cold pack
- Antiseptic cream
- Disposable gloves
- Blanket
- Athletic bandage
Keep in mind these are just a few items you may need, but as you can see they can be found in a human’s first aid kit. For a more extensive list of items, a simple Google search on the internet will give you many more ideas.
It’s always good to keep the following paperwork with you at all times: dog’s health record, medication, poison control numbers, family member and veterinarians phone numbers. In a time of an emergency, it’s easier to pull out a piece of paper and hand it to a friend to assist, than to have to think of number and medication names. This will allow you to focus on assisting your canine friend without having the worry of making phone calls.

Bulldogs in England were originally working dogs who drove and caught cattle and guarded their masters' property. They were brought by working class immigrants to the American South where they used this all-around working dog for many tasks. By the end of World War II, however, the breed was almost extinct. Mr. John D. Johnson, a returning war veteran, decided to resurrect this breed. The modern American Bulldog continues to serve as an all-purpose working dog; a fearless and steady guard dog; and a loyal family companion. |
