    2009 JUDGES EDUCATION SEMINARS

New Educational Information for Conformation Judges: In an attempt to stay current and continually offer the best education possible for our conformation judges, judges education is currently being re-evaluated. We are looking into using a combination of physical seminars and online training. The online training and associated tests will be required to keep a UKC judge’s approval current. There may be a fee associated with access to the online training. There also may be an option to attend a physical seminar in lieu of online training. Please stay tuned to the UKC website and to BLOODLINES magazine for further information as it becomes available.

New Educational Opportunities for TFT, APBT and AE judges!
If you are considering applying for these three breeds, or are currently provisional for any of them, please read!

This fall, the Judge’s Education Department of the United Kennel Club is instituting new educational programs at the Toy Fox Terrier, American Eskimo and American Pit Bull Terrier National Specialties. In conjunction with these three Nationals, there will be an in-depth judge’s education program on the breed before the judging of the National Specialty classes. There will be ringside mentoring during the judging. Following the judging, all three of the National judges have agreed to critique their main winners for the students.

Attendance at these programs will count as one apprenticeship leg for that breed for students. Even if you have not yet applied for the breed, your attendance will be held in escrow at UKC until you apply.

These Judges Education Programs will be outstanding educational opportunities for those people who want to learn to judge the TFT, AE and APBT. The entries will be large and there will be wonderful dogs to look at and long-time breeders to talk with.

    Dogue de Bordeaux

The Dogue de Bordeaux is one of the oldest French breeds. Its actual origins are obscure but it is probably descended from one of the strains of Mastiff-type dogs that accompanied Macedonian and Roman armies through Asia, Europe, and Britain. By the middle of the 19th century, the Dogue de Bordeaux was little known outside of Aquitaine where it was used to hunt large animals, such as boar; to fight; to guard homes and cattle; and in the service of butchers. The breed narrowly missed extinction during the two world wars but enjoyed a resurgence in the 1960's. Sometime in the early 1980's, the first Dogue de Bordeaux was imported to the United States.
