The Excel Academy Dog Program What began as an impromptu request for an off-campus visit has turned into something that, to be honest, at first I really was not prepared for. In June 2006, I presented a request to Excel’s administration that would allow interested students to attend a dog show being hosted by the Greater Southern Kennel Club. The show was actually a transplant to our area due to the recent hurricanes in the Gulf Coast areas. I typed up a small request, and once presented, was hit with an offer that has since changed my life.

Conformation 101
with Kathy LorentzenMy Favorite PREMIER Moments, by Kathy Lorentzen (06/26/2008): It’s Tuesday morning following 2008 PREMIER and I’m barely functional following five days in Kalamazoo and a full load of judging duties every day of the show, but wanted to get my thoughts in print before the experience fades. People make them on New Year’s Day, when they are recovering from an evening of revelry and for the most part they’re broken by that afternoon. So rather than call these “resolutions” I’ll just state that I’d like to accomplish these things in the coming year. Read more here Previous Feature Articles... | |

The Golden Retriever was developed in late 19th century Scotland and England primarily by crossing Flat- and Wavy-coated Retrievers, Tweed Water Spaniels, and a red Setter. The Golden was bred by British aristocrats to be a dual purpose dog, able to retrieve waterfowl and upland game birds and also to be a companion. The Golden Retriever's friendly disposition, attractive appearance, and high level of trainability have made this breed one of the most popular in the United States. The Golden Retriever was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1956. |
