(Breeder Spotlight)

Biography

Always smiling, Stacy’s positive attitude and passion reflects well on her first love, River Ridge Rat Terriers. Her number one rule, without exception, is quality, never quantity. And quality is what she has, winning the United Kennel Club’s 2007 Best of Breed in Top Ten competition and awarded with a semi-finalist win, among many others in her eight-year career as a breeder, making her kennel a rapidly rising star in the Rat Terrier ring.

River Ridge Rat Terriers stands strong behind breeding only fully-tested dogs which pass all certifications. While Stacy believes that she will never know enough, she does indeed know enough to learn from other breeders, thus lifting the standards ever higher for all.

In the frenzied and sometimes chaotic show ring, Stacy finds focus, solace and solitude as she works to be one with her dog. This team spirit between her and her dog has produced proven winners time and time again. Stacy learned these and many qualities from her special mentors, Donna Sullivan of Four Paws Rat Terriers and Barbara Trammell of Burway’s Star Rat Terriers. Even more importantly, Stacy credits her mentors with instilling the kind of kennel ethics that she hopes others will strive hard to reach with the consistency and superiority exhibited at River Ridge.

Traveling around the country and meeting others who share her enthusiasm are two of the things Stacy loves best about showing dogs. Whether it is watching her “bred by” dogs taking a Best of Breed, or a puppy owner calling her with an achievement update, holding her breath at the wonder of a weight pull, or observing one of the top Junior Handlers win yet again with one of her River Ridge dogs, Stacy’s dedication and ever-present respect shine through.

At only 36, Stacy’s energy will continue to be a force in the UKC. Her dedication to improving herself and her dogs, her top-notch values, and her commitment to introduce the breed to the public will remain at the forefront of the Rat Terrier community. She has a great eye for dogs. Follow her, and watch her take River Ridge Rat Terriers into what surely is a very bright future.

Toy Fox Terrier

The immediate ancestor of the Toy Fox Terrier is the larger Smooth Fox Terrier. Owners of these brave little dogs found that the smallest, which they called "runts", were the scrappiest of the bunch. These little dogs were prized for their temperament. Smaller dogs were developed and eventually were found in the seven-pound range. The United Kennel Club began registering the Smooth Fox Terrier in 1912. Between then and the mid-1920's, the Toy Fox Terrier was developed, being a miniature of the previous breed, however they were still registered under the name of Fox Terrier (Smooth). Those dogs appear almost identical to the dogs of today. It was not until February 24, 1936, that U.K.C. began registering the Toy Fox Terrier under its current name.
