Requirements and Procedures for Becoming a U.K.C. Licensed Judge
Persons interested in becoming a U.K.C. licensed Judge should: complete the application and test (available upon request from Field Operations); application and test is then returned by applicant to U.K.C., along with license fee. If applicant passes application and test, they will then be sent three apprentice forms.
1. Applicants must be known for their honesty, integrity, impartiality, and their keen interest in improvement of the Beagle breed. The Judge’s personal appearance and habits should be above reproach and befitting a U.K.C. licensed Judge.
2. Applicants shall have reached their eighteenth (18) birthday before applying to U.K.C. to become a U.K.C. licensed Judge.
3. Applicants must know the Official U.K.C. Rules and Procedures.
4. Applicants should be at least a high school graduate or equivalent.
5. Applicants must be experienced Beaglers who know and can identify correct and faulty Beagle work as it applies to hunting hounds.
6. Applicants must be endorsed by an approved club and must be recommended by officers of the club. At least three officers of the club must sign the U.K.C. application form.
7. Applicants must serve as an apprentice under three different U.K.C. licensed Large Pack or Small Pack Judges and be recommended by them. Apprentice may not own, co-own or handle any dog in the class in which they are performing an apprenticeship.
8. The applicants must understand that they are at all times to Judge the dog and not be influenced by who the owner or handler is.
9. The applicants must be willing to accept the responsibilities of discussing their decisions, if asked to do so by the handler, immediately following the announcement of winners.
10. No applicant for a U.K.C. license shall be denied on basis of religion, race, color, national origin or sex.
11. Each applicant must pass a written test to become a U.K.C. licensed Judge.
12. The Judge’s license fee is $10.
13. Newly approved Judges cannot have an apprentice serve under them until they have judged at least three classes.
14. No more than two apprentices can serve in a class at a time.
15. All U.K.C. licenses shall be granted or withheld at the sole discretion of United Kennel Club, Inc.
16. U.K.C. has the right to suspend or revoke any Judge’s license.
EXCEPTION: Current AKC/CKC approved Judges will be Grandfathered in as licensed U.K.C. Judges by simply submitting an application. The test and apprenticeship will be waived and there is no fee.
