Measuring and Numbering
All dogs, except those in possession of a U.K.C. permanent measurement card, must be measured the day of the event, prior to competing in the class.
The measuring committee, when possible, should include both judges of the class. They may work together or split up, each utilizing assistants as necessary to accurately and efficiently measure hounds.
Dogs must be measured with a drop-bar type of measuring stand made entirely of metal. The stand shall be made in such a way as to prevent measurer from determining the height of the dog as it is being measured.
Hounds must be measured at ground level on a flat, non-slippery surface. They are to be posed by the measurers in the handlers presence in a natural stance. The head shall be held level and no measurement taken until the hound stands without leaning or slouching. Contact bar should be lightly rested at the top of the withers and locked into position when the measurers are satisfied they have an accurate measurement.
Once measurement has been read, it cannot be reversed. Hounds are measured one time with no chance to appeal the decision of the measurers.
If measured out of a particular class, the owner/handler has the option of receiving a refund or transferring the entry into the appropriate class.
All hounds in a class must be numbered for identification with numbers not less than 3 1/2” high. Numbers should be painted on each side of the hound with a highly visible paint.
