United Kennel Club Inc. Announces Cash Award Option at Licensed Hunting Beagle Events
Available to all UKC Approved Hunting Beagle Clubs
Effective May 1, 1999

United Kennel Club Inc., has made a policy change for Hunting Beagle events only. This policy change will allow clubs the option to give a cash prize rather than the traditional trophies or plaques. Cash Option events will be run under UKC Hunting Beagle Honor Rules with one policy exception; money will be awarded instead of trophies.

When the club confirms its event with United Kennel Club, they must indicate if the event is a Cash Option hunt, and if so, what percentage of the entry fees will be paid back to the winners. If an event is not confirmed as a Cash Option Event, the club cannot award a cash prize.

Example of a typical Cash Award event:

The club will first confirm their event with United Kennel Club as an event where cash will be awarded instead of prizes. If an event is awarding money, it will be specified as such in the Upcoming Events section of COONHOUND BLOODLINES and American Beagler magazines.

The only differences in the upcoming events listing between a Cash Award hunt and the traditional trophy hunts will be three dollar symbols ($$$) at the end of the club’s hunt information. Next to the three dollar signs will be a percentage. This percentage will be the percentage of the entry fee that will be paid back to the winners.

Here is a sample of a typical UKC Upcoming Events listing for a Beagle Hunt with Cash Awards:

MI, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Beagle Club Take I-94 to the Sprinkle Road exit. Turn south, go 1 mi. to Kilgore Rd and turn right. Go to third stop light and club will be on left side of the road. Signs posted. Contact John Doe (269) 343-9020.

March 20 HUNT 8:00 am CH and GR 11:00 am, $20 $$$ 50%

In the example above, the club listed that it is awarding cash and that the payback is going to be 50 percent. At a 40 dog hunt, with a $20 entry fee, this club will be awarding $400 in cash (50%) awards to the participants and keeping $400 for club expenses (recording fee, license fees and club profit).

Hunt Example: Assume that there were 24 registered dogs, 12 Champions and 4 Grands at this event. The money available to the Registered dogs will be $240, Champion dogs $120 and Grands $40. Money will be paid to all Registered dogs receiving Championship points, all Hunting Beagle Champions with plus point cast wins and all Grand Hunting Beagle Champions with plus point cast wins. Champions and Grands winning their casts with plus points, but not winning their division, will be awarded their entry fee. The Hunting Beagle Champion and Grand Hunting Beagle Champion overall winners will receive the category money minus the cast winner payouts. With the exception of Champion and Grand plus point cast winners, dogs that do not receive Championship points will NOT receive money.

In the event listed above, the Grand winner would win $40 and the Champion winner would win $80. (The other $40 would go to the cast winners from the two nonwinning casts, assuming that they both scored plus points).

Determining payback to Registered Dogs - As mentioned earlier, all Registered dogs that receive Championship points will be awarded money. All Registered dogs placing, but not advancing to the Registered Winners Pack (5th thru 10th) will receive the amount of their entry fee back. All dogs advancing to the Registered Winners Pack will hunt for the remaining money. In the above example, the fifth and sixth place dogs would each receive $20. The top four dogs would hunt for the remaining $200 in the Winners Pack. At this hunt the Registered winner would receive $80, second $50, third $40, and fourth $30.

The amount paid to the Registered Winners Pack is based on the amount left after paying the Registered cast winners who do not advance to the Winners Pack. The remaining money is split among Winners Pack Participants as follows:
