Thursday morning we will be heading east to New Castle, Pennsylvania for the 2008 Youth Nationals. The Western PA Coon & Fox Hunters Association will play host to the event. Club member Tony Daviduk has taken on the responsibility of guides and judges. President Tom Ealy and his family have been very active in youth events throughout the years. They are excited to be hosting the event, and just like all of us here at the United Kennel Club, they look forward to seeing kids from all over the country coming to their neck of the woods for a weekend of fun and games including a little coonhunting - Youth Style!
We have a beautiful facility reserved at the Coachmen's Club in New Castle. There's plenty of shade and space to camp right on the grounds. There is a beautiful private lake on the grounds that we can use for non-licensed water races and possibly even for a few games. :) The lake will also be open to the kids to fish throughout the weekend as well as swimming during designated hours only. Tiffany Ealy and her sister Zesta have been working hard in organizing many different games to play throughout the weekend. We're just hoping the Ealy girls won't have all the kids worn out before it's time to go hunting. :)
New this year will be a dunk tank. How much fun will that be? I'm thinking a good candidate for the dunk tank would be the Master of Hounds Larry Hawke. How many events can you go to where you can heckle the Master of Hounds and then dunk his butt in a water tank? Or, how about after the bench show on Saturday we could throw Andi Elburn-the bench show judge- in the tank and let all the kids who didn't win in the show take a crack at dunking the judge?
We would like to invite all coonhound kids around the country to join us this weekend in New Castle. Even though they may not have qualified for the tuition round on Saturday there will be a Last Chance Qualifier on Friday night. And on Saturday night there will be an open event for those that didn’t get qualified. Eligible kids will be from ages 5 to 17 drawn in two separate divisions. We have donated prize lights from Nite Lite for each placement in both Friday and Saturday’s hunts.
This is shaping up to be a fun, fun weekend. Our goal is to provide plenty of games and prizes allowing the kids to focus on having fun and if they do happen to place in the events they will consider it a bonus. Hope to see you there!
