Michelle Levy
Facility Manager

Michelle has worked at UKC for almost two years, since March of 2010. She came to UKC after a friend and current employee encouraged her to submit an application. She is a Western Michigan University graduate, with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Anthropology. She has also taken business courses at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and continues to learn by attending seminars, reading and taking online courses.

Michelle's job responsibilities vary from day to day - she was originally hired to be assistant to the President and she continues to do that, but she has taken on additional roles and act as facility manager and travel coordinator for many of the UKC events. Michelle also helps with administrative tasks, research, scheduling and assisting with special projects. As Facility Manager she is responsible for maintaining the building, equipment, vehicles and grounds and procuring services or supplies needed to keep operations running smoothly while working with vendors to keep spending as low as possible. She is currently coordinating a construction project that is updating and adding an addition on to our building and will involve moving two of our departments into new work areas. Michelle says her favorite part of her job is her lack of boredom. "I always have something new to work on, and I am constantly being challenged to use a variety of skills and to learn new things. I feel lucky to be doing something that I enjoy and that I get to be surrounded by supportive, caring, fun and laid-back people who also love their jobs. I love that employees can bring their dogs to work."

Michelle does not have a background working with dogs, but she has always loved them. "I have learned so much about dogs from coworkers who bring their dogs to work One of my favorite dogs in the world is here today, her name is Carly and she's an Australian Cattle Dog (pictured). She is owned by Sara Chisnell-Voigt, UKC Legal Counsel. We just taught Carly to open and shut our office door this morning." Michele does not have a dog at home yet, but says she is close. "I need to be 100% sure I am ready for that responsibility, and I also have a cat named Sock who would go insane if I brought a dog into my little apartment. I hope to get one within the next year, and I am not sure which breed I want to get and whether I will be going to a breeder or adopting."

Outside of work, Michelle enjoys being creative in every aspect of her life, especially cooking and painting. She loves being outdoors, riding her bike and learning new things. She would eventually like to go back to school in the next few years. She also loves Man vs. Wild.

As far as growth for UKC, Michelle is excited about the construction, renovation and rearranging of departments happening at the UKC building. "Although I really love the challenge of coordinating it, I am really looking forward to seeing the finished product."

Plott Hound

Of the seven breeds of UKC registered Coonhounds, only the Plott Hound doesn’t trace its ancestry to the foxhound; and of the breeds, we can be most certain of the Plott’s heritage and the men most responsible for its development. The ancestors of today’s Plott were used for boar hunting in Germany many years ago. Jonathon Plott left his native Germany and came to this country in 1750.
