National Bluetick Days This Weekend! | |
The bawling sounds of a Bluetick hound echoing across the hardwoods of the Palestine, Illinois and surrounding areas will be a sure sign that there's a coon hunt going on nearby. The National Bluetick Breeders of America will be in Palestine this coming weekend for their Annual Breed Day Event. The Wabash Valley Coonhunters Club in Robinson will play host supplying all the guides, etc., for the event. New this year will be the much anticipated Young Guns Showcase where two different age divisions will compete on Thursday night for this inaugural title. In addition, there will also be the usual Bluetick Invitational as well as the All Blue Hunt.
UKC Staff Members, Todd Morgan and Tanya Raab, will be on hand taking winners photos and representing the United Kennel Club. They will offer DNA profiles at a discounted fee, take COONHOUND BLOODLINES subscriptions, take your Registration papers back to the UKC office for transfering ownership, answer any UKC questions you may have or just simply sit down and shoot the breeze with ya. Watch for all the winners to be posted right here on the Coonhound News Page throughout the weekend. Or better yet, load up the family and your favorite cooner and head on over to Palestine, Illinois and be a part of the activities.
Check out the complete schedule of events below.

History
It is most likely that the Bluetick is principally descended from the quick foxhounds of England with some introduction of the blood of various French hounds which were used for hunting big game. The French dogs were known as being very cold nosed. George Washington received five such French hounds from General Lafayette.
Blueticks were originally registered with UKC as English. In 1946, at the request of the Bluetick fanciers, UKC began registering Blueticks as a separate breed.

"Success Isn't Going To Happen Overnight"
Laura Bell
In the outreaches of Owatonna, Minnesota, you can often hear the sounds of late night barks emerge from the woods, while the owner of the coonhounds contently listens to the track unfold. Making his way to the hounds is their owner, 16-year-old Brandon Becker, who spends many nights like this in the woods with his hounds - nearly every night in the week, he says. Read more here
