Horizon Award Announcement | |
The United Kennel Club and COONHOUND BLOODLINES established the Horizon Award in 2002 to recognize the outstanding youth of today and encourage them to maintain the legacy of the UKC Coonhound sports into the 21st Century.
*Six UKC/COONHOUND BLOODLINES Horizon Awards are presented annually to a young sportsperson chosen by each of the six UKC Chartered National Coonhound Associations:American Black & Tan Coonhound Association
Bluetick Breeders of America
United English Breeders & Fanciers Association
National Plott Hound Association
National Redbone Coonhound Association
Treeing Walker Breeders & Fanciers Association
The six young people who are chosen have traditionally been featured in each Youth Issue of COONHOUND BLOODLINES which, up until recently has been the January issue. The 2008 recipients will be appear in the January 2009 issue. In addition, each recipient receives a $100 Savings Bond, a plaque, and a complimentary one-year subscription to COONHOUND BLOODLINES.
The six chartered National Coonhound Associations must choose a worthy young person and submit that choice to United Kennel Club/COONHOUND BLOODLINES no later than October 1, 2008.
Since they are in a position to be familiar with the people within their breed, we are confident the National Associations will choose a young person worthy of the Horizon Award.
Important Update for 2009! Beginning with the 2009 year:
*1) The American Leopard Cur Breeders Association will also be invited to choose a Horizon Award winner from their organization.
2) The deadline for submitting the candidate will be changed to May 1, 2009, so they can be featured in the September 2009 Youth issue of CB.
