Beaglers from all parts of the country were in attendance in support of the McVay Family and the Annual Don McVay Sr. Memorial Hunt and Show held last weekend at Shumacker Farms in Coshocton, Ohio . The area had not seen rain in quite some time which made for some very tough running conditions. Nevertheless, the conditions did not make a difference when it came to participation. Afterall, this event was not so much about winning but rather to show respect to a longtime beagling family in memory of their father who was very instrumental to the sport and beagling.

A total of 188 hounds took to the rolling hills and brush country of the Coshocton area, known for its abundance of cottontails and prime hunting, in the elimination style hunt. The deadline to return for the Registered Division was 10:30 am, after which, a bench show was held with 46 hounds entered.

The Host Club had thousands of dollars worth of prizes up for grabs through raffles. There were dog boxes and houses, guns, training and tracking sytems, guided hunts and many, many more donated items too numerous to mention. The biggest prize may have been the dog trailer valued at over $3,000. The raffle drawing was a huge success, with Mike Ridenhour of Missouri the lucky winner of the dog trailer.

After the raffle drawing the Champions and Grands took to the field for a tough afternoon of running. Although not all casts came back in with plus points due to the tough conditions, all in all, it was a very nice event put on by the McVays and the Coshocton Beagle Club. We would like to thank the McVays and the officers and members of the host club for their hard work putting on another outstanding event!
