Coon Dog Days Saluda, North Carolina hosted by Central Carolina Benefit Assn.

What a fun filled weekend in the hills of Western North Carolina! Let me just say - this is not your typical coonhound event. 47 years ago the local coonhunters in the Saluda area held a picnic to celebrate coondogs and coonhunting. That first picnic led to an annual gathering that continued to grow each year. Matter of fact, the whole town got behind this celebration. The event grew to the point where all of Main Street was blocked off to allow for all the activities. Today, several thousand congregate, many from miles away, in the downtown area for this annual festival celebrating the "coondog". There's music, marathons, a huge parade and much more. For many, it's the thing to do and the place to be on this weekend. The area offers such a wide variety of things to do and see.

Chris Simmons of Crammerton, North Carolina brought in the high score of the weekend on Friday night with GRNITECH 'PR' Simmons Stylish Sally, a seven year old Treeing Walker female sired by GRNITECH Stylish Digger. Sally was named the Overall Nite Hunt Winner. The Overall Bench Show Winner was CH CCH 'PR' Phantom's Montana Mayflower, a 2 1/2 year old B&T female owned and handled by Brandon Tedder of Hartsville, SC.

A special thanks to Ronnie Mace, Steve Jones, Leroy Helms, Pud Foster, Lisa Beddingfield, the event sponsors Black Gold Dog Foods, K-Light Company and anyone else who had a hand in it for all their efforts in. The money raised goes to benefit the Children's Hospital of St. Jude. The UKC is proud to have been a part of the 2010 Saluda Coon Days and look forward to many more. We encourage everyone to make plans to bring the whole family and your "coondogs" to Saluda next year and join us in this unique celebration of the "coondog".
