J-Taz’s Kennel Club 2008 show in Japan - A GREAT SUCCESS!

J-Taz’s Kennel Club in Japan hosted their third annual show on May 17, 18, 2008. Judging this event were UKC Judges Dorothy Jacobs, Barbara Marin and Judy Threlfall. Judges are shown below at the beginning of a Bus Tour of Temples in Kyoto, Japan.

As tourists we all agreed, Japan is a beautiful country to visit. Not only is the landscape and scenery stunning, but the people of Japan open their hearts and roll out the welcome mat in an unforgettable style. Below are just a couple of the remarkable Temples we visited.

Every place we visited was amazing and picturesque. The whole time we were in Japan, we never saw a single piece of litter. Japan is a country where the land is treasured and manners of the people are valued tremendously.

After enjoying a full day of touring, we were off to the beautiful show grounds where we stayed at a hotel that was a short walking distance from the show ring. The next morning we enjoyed an extraordinary breakfast of smoked fish, sticky rice, miso soup, pickles, and green tea. Everything was mouth-watering! After breakfast we strolled over to the show grounds and were greeted by many smiling faces and a ring that had been meticulously laid out.

Dot Jacobs was the judge for show one on Saturday, there were 86 APBT’s entered. While Dot judged, Barbara and I mingled among the people and their dogs, or sat and read on a park bench under the beautiful Japanese sun.

Lunch was served daily in a traditional Japanese family style room. Lunch consisted of delicate sandwiches with iced coffee.

While Barbara Marin judged the second show on Saturday with an entry of 84 APBT’s, Dot and I enjoyed catching up and visiting with exhibitors and spectators.

This time also gave me the opportunity to photograph people and their dogs.

On Sunday, I judged an entry of 94 dogs while Barbara and Dot relaxed. After the show, we all enjoyed weight pull. Below are several photos of the people and the dogs during this event.

Plott Hound

Of the six breeds of UKC registered Coonhounds, only the Plott Hound doesn’t trace its ancestry to the foxhound; and of the breeds, we can be most certain of the Plott’s heritage and the men most responsible for its development. The ancestors of today’s Plott were used for boar hunting in Germany many years ago. Jonathon Plott left his native Germany and came to this country in 1750. For the rest of the story behind the modern Plott Hound, follow this link.
