Beagle Questions and Answers

Question - What if I want to go to events in other states? Do I earn any points?

Answer – Yes you do! Here is how it works:

The state race will work off where your dog is registered on January 1 of the State Race year or in the case of Single Registered dogs, the state that they are registered to when single registered. The state that your dog is registered to is the state that your State Race points will go to. You can hunt in any state you wish and your points will go back to your state.

Question – What if I buy a dog part way through the year, do the state race points transfer with the dog?

Answer – The details to this question are being worked out as you read this. There are a lot of things to consider before giving an official answer to this question. The main things that we are looking at as far as this subject is stopping people from transferring dogs into another individuals name for the reason of winning another state or placing in another state. More than likely what we will look at in this situation is saying that there can be no transfers of dogs after a given date and have the state points transfer too. You can always sell a dog when you please, but the state race points wouldn’t go with the dog if it was sold after the given date.

Question – What if I want to put my dog with a handler in another state and the dog never earns any points in my state? Where do the points go?

Answer – The points go to the state where the dog is registered. A dog could theoretically run one states race and never even compete in that state. The catch is that dog will then have to go to that state and run in the runoff.

Question - Which event will be the bonus events?

Answer – Each state will be awarded 1-2 weekends of bonus events. Bonus events will be double points events. In states with a lot of clubs there will be two bonus weekends. In states with few clubs or only one club, there will be only one bonus weekend. The criteria for awarding the bonus events is quite easy. The biggest events get the bonus hunts. This will create competition within the state clubs for the right to hold the bonus events. If you club wants to host a bonus event, all you have to do is host one of the biggest events of the year that the following year your will earn a bonus event.

Question – What are the rules for the State Runoff?

Answer – UKC will coordinate with each state and determine where and when the State Runoff will be. The Runoff must be scheduled between February 1 and April 1 of each year. This is to allow for the runoff to conclude before the Nationals each year. The final National runoff for the State Races will be run on Friday morning of the Beagle Nationals.

The rules for the State and National runoff’s are really quite simple. The host club must provide one non-hunting judge and one non-hunting guide for each of the four first round casts. The casts will hunt for 2 hours and each cast winner will advance to the final cast for the runoff. On the final cast the host club must provide two non-hunting judges and one non-hunting guide. This cast will again run for two hours and an overall winner will be crowned at the conclusion of this cast. Plus points do not have to be scored in these casts.

Additionally the State Races include a Junior division. The top 4 Juniors in each state will also be invited to the runoff and will run for 2 hours to determine the top Junior Dog in each state.

Question - Who gets recognized in the State Races? Who are the winners?

Answer – Of course every dog that makes the final list or a monthly list throughout the year will have bragging rights. As far as official recognition UKC and Black Gold will officially recognize with prizes the highest scoring dog of each state (All Age and Junior) at the conclusion of the year. This is the dog that scores the most State Race points throughout the year. Furthermore UKC will publish the results of the State Runoff and list the top 4 dogs from each state for everyone to see.

The top dogs that advance to the National runoff will reap the biggest rewards with the top 2 All Age and top 2 Juniors receiving the top awards. Full lists of State and National State Race awards will be published in an upcoming issue.

Question – How will the National Runoff work?

Answer – Each of the dogs that won their State Runoff in either Juniors or the All Age categories will advance to the Runoff Finals. The runoff finals will take place Friday morning at the UKC hunting Beagle Nationals in April of each year. The All Age and Junior Runoff winners will be divided into four cast which will run for a total of 2 hours with a non-hunting judge and a non-hunting guide. The cast winners from those casts will advance to the final casts in each category.

Each of the two final casts will then run for two hours to determine the final placements of the All Age category and the Junior category.

Question – What will the monthly magazine lists consist of?

Answer – The monthly State Race lists will consist of the most up to date information UKC has received from hunt reports. Furthermore, more up to date lists will be run on www.ukcdogs.com. The top 20 All Age dogs and the top 6 Juniors from each Race will be listed along with their points total.

Question – What are the States and Regions?

Answer – The current tentative States and Regions are as follows.

Wisconsin/Minnesota
Iowa
Missouri/Arkansas/Kansas
Illinois
Indiana
Michigan
Ohio
Virginia/Maryland
North Carolina/South Carolina
West Virginia
Pennsylvania/New York

Question – What if I don’t live in one of these states?
