Happy Fourth of July for you and your Dog!

With Fourth of July this weekend, it’s important to remember our canine friends and their comfort and safety.
With all those fireworks going off, your dog might be more likely to be anxious or uncomfortable.
Their hearing is a lot more sensitive than ours, so it’s probably best to leave them at home
in a safe place if you plan to go out and enjoy the visual effects in the sky.

Make your holiday weekend an enjoyable one!

2009 UKC PREMIER A Huge Success
UKC would like to extend a hearty thank you to all the competitors, judges, stewards, vendors, spectators and especially the dogs who joined us over the weekend of June 12-14, 2009 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This PREMIER is certainly one for the history books! From the first-ever Premier Rally Obedience Trial to the special Total Dog ceremony, we hope you all found it an event to remember.

UKC Hunting Programs
United Kennel Club, Inc. has always been a great friend to hunters everywhere. We are not a company that chooses to ride the fence on the issue of hunting. We believe in the right to keep and bear arms. We view the sport of hunting as a valued family tradition that is not only a great source of recreational activity but also a necessary tool in the goals of game management. UKC publicly supports all organizations that work hard to protect gun ownership and all legal forms of hunting.

Check Out that Rescue Group! Marlene Stachowiak NADOI member # 337
Not all rescue organizations are warm and fuzzy! Some are not interested in providing a service to either the dog or his new family. Believe it or not, they may be more interested in numbers, which gives them the “documentation” to collect undeserved grants, donations, and sucker in more volunteers to do the work. Yes, some are in it for the profit! Of course, most rescues are doing the right thing, but unsuspecting families need to have some guidelines and use caution and common sense when selecting a knowledgeable and supportive rescue organization. Distinguishing between the “good” and the “bad” is really not difficult. Read more here.

Bluetick Coonhound

UKC's third most widely registered breed is the Bluetick Coonhound. It is most likely that the Bluetick is principally descended from the quick foxhounds of England with some introduction of the blood of various French hounds which were used for hunting big game. The French dogs were known as being very cold nosed. George Washington received five such French hounds from General Lafayette. Blueticks were originally registered with UKC as English. In 1946, at the request of the Bluetick fanciers, UKC began registering Blueticks as a separate breed.
