Youth Retriever Program
The UKC Youth Retriever Program is designed to get youth involved with hunting dogs and the Hunting Retriever Club. Getting youth actively involved with HRC is a great way to spend time with our kids, and to teach them about hunting, dog training, and gun safety. The structure of the program is as follows:
| Children requesting a puppy are to send in a completed "UKC Youth Application" accompanied by an essay explaining why they would like a pup, and what breed/color they prefer. The name, contact information, and signature of a sponsor must be included. A sponsor should be someone who is actively involved with HRC, and can be a parent, family friend, etc. | |

| All breeders who wish to be considered for the program and willing to donate pups are to complete and submit the applicable form. | |
| The staff will go over the applications and essays and pick a recipient and pair them with a breeder within a reasonable driving distance, if possible. The parents of the applicant will be contacted by phone, or e-mail, to make sure they are approve of the new pup. It is the responsibility of the applicant's parents and the breeder to arrange for safe delivery of the pup. | |
| The pup must be UKC registerable at the time of the donation. The letters "YRP" must precede the pup's registered name in recognition of the program. It is required that the litter be UKC litter-registered so that a Puppy Certificate will be available to give to the winner at the time the pup is picked up. | |
| Once the pup has been picked up/delivered, it is requested that a photo of the child and pup, along with a thank you letter to the breeder, be sent to HUNTING RETRIEVER magazine so the results can be published. | |
| It is the responsibility of the applicant to stay in contact with the breeder regarding the status of the pups. The recipient must not sell the dog unless they have the permission of the breeder. Rev. 9/1/08 | |
