The Eliminator is not only a unique event because of its format but also being held in the middle of February the conditions can vary significantly. It might be sunny and 60 degrees or it might be snowing and blowing. This year it was below freezing on Saturday and the conditions were tough at best. That evening it snowed an inch or two in but when Sunday morning rolled around it was a mere 10 degrees leaving the playing field crusty in most places. By mid-day on Sunday the wind picked up making it even tougher for both handler and hound. Regardless, the atmosphere in the clubhouse remained excellent throughout and it was all about the hound that could gear down and get it done.

Saturday saw 107 hounds entering in the 2013 Eliminator held at the Backwoods Beagle Club in Howard, Ohio. The first split (Round 1a) had 57 beagles going out in the morning round while the remaining 50 opted for the afternoon round. 21 hounds came back with a plus point score to advance to Sunday's round.

On Sunday Paul Weaver of Fort Gay, West Virginia was one of those hunters who claimed a spot close to the wood stove at the clubhouse where his wide smile told the story of each round his hound had participated in. In the end it was in fact his hound who remained the only non-eliminated hound of the event. Congratulations to Paul and Kevin Weaver on their outstanding weekend with Xdawg Gus who prevailed through any adverse conditions as they were to be named the 2013 Eliminator Champion!

Thanks to the Backwoods Beagle Club for a fantastic job with hosting the Eliminator. Their efforts of putting all cast on rabbits, good food all weekend and a very nice prize package for the winners was very much appreciated. Thank you all. Nicely done.
