KALAMAZOO, MICH. March 12, 2014 – As of March 12, 2014, UKC announced fifteen (15) breeds are eligible for litter registration when sired by a non-UKC registered sire. UKC previously enforced a policy, consistent with other registries, whereby puppies could not be UKC litter registered unless both parents were UKC registered. If the sire, for instance, was not UKC registered but was registered with a UKC acknowledged registry, the offspring would be eligible for single registration only, and each pup needed to be individually single registered. Alternatively, the new option is offered as a convenience to, in essence, single register an entire litter at once!

This new litter registration application allows for litter registration of pups sired by a non-UKC registered sire, provided a copy of the sire’s Proof of Registration from an acknowledged registry is included with the application. Submission of a complete 3-generation pedigree for the sire is encouraged, but not required. As always, the dam of the non-UKC sired litter must be UKC registered.

“The reason the new litter option is only open to fifteen (15) breeds is to test the water, so to speak, and work out any kinks with the new procedure,” UKC Vice President of Events Todd Kellam said.

“Depending on how it works out and the response we get, there is a possibility within a year of opening it to all breeds for which we accept single registration. It is something that our Hunt Test and Field Trial people have been requesting, so that is where we wanted to give it a try. I personally think it is going to be a huge success,” Kellam added.

The fifteen (15) eligible breeds include: Beagle, Boykin Spaniel, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Curly-Coated Retriever, Flat Coated Retriever, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Brittany, English Pointer, English Setter, German Shorthaired Pointer, German Wirehaired Pointer, Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla, Irish Red & White Setter, and the Vizsla.
