On Friday night 650 of the country's finest coonhounds will begin their quest for the most sought after title in the sport of competition coonhunting - WORLD CHAMPION! This world-class event will have coonhounds representing 36 US States and Canada competing in eight selected locations around the country with aspirations of advancing to the UKC World Championship Finals in Elizabeth, Illinois next weekend. This year the State of Ohio will be well represented with 77 hounds in the zone semifinals. Tennessee comes in second with 57. Following close behind is Indiana with 54, Iowa with 48 and Missouri with 47 coonhounds representing their respective states. The western states are also well represented this year. California, Washington, Utah, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado have 11 of their best in the 2008 UKC World Championship.
As mentioned the competion begins on Friday for the first of two nights of World Championship Semifinals action. 102 coonhounds will be selected, based on double cast wins first - then high scoring single cast winners, to move on to the World Championship Finals. Each location will have a pro-rated number of coonhounds that will advance based on the number of entries in each repsective zone. After Saturday's hunt a combined total of 102 coonhounds will be named Finalists. They will then have the opportunity to compete against other Finalists in an elimination style format begining on Thursday, September 18th in Illinois for three more nights of competition ultimately seeking to be the one and only undefeated hound and become the next UKC World Nite Hunt Champion!

Following is a list of entries at each zone location including the number of dogs that will advance from each zone. In addition, a list of each state represented and the number of hounds they have entered in the 2008 UKC World Championships. And finally, a breakdown by breed and sex.

UKC would like to thank each and every owner who entered into this World Championship. We wish each and every one the best of luck and we'll see you at the Finals!
