KALAMAZOO, MI, Feb. 21, 2012

Thank you for all of the comments and suggestions we have received regarding the Event Secretary rule change going into effect in July of this year. We went through and carefully reviewed all of the potential suggestions received and we are glad to have come up with a revision using our combined efforts that we feel will meet the needs of the majority of clubs as well as the UKC.

Among the many suggestions received it was made clear that there is quite a bit of confusion out there regarding the Event Advocate program, what Event Managers actually are, and that most UKC clubs and exhibitors are unaware that UKC has any disciplinary procedures for clubs that do not adhere to UKC rules and regulations when hosting events. To help clarify all of these points three press releases in addition to this one are being released to address each of these programs as well as an FAQ for the new Event Advocates and for Event Managers. We hope this will clarify some of UKC’s new procedures and programs and help everyone better understand the vision and scope of these new programs.

We truly appreciated hearing from all of you and want to assure you that each suggestion was read and considered individually. The following revision to the Event Secretary rule and the three press releases yet to come are products of your efforts and ideas sent to us to help move our events forward in a positive way. Again, thank you to all who participated in creating these changes.

Effective July 1, 2012

Dogs owned by an Event Secretary may be entered in an event in which they serve in that capacity provided that a secondary person capable of fulfilling all of the Event Secretary’s duties remains at the Secretary’s table and available to exhibitors and judges for the duration of time the primary Secretary is unavailable.

Event Managers may not enter any dogs in the event in which they serve in that capacity, nor may any dog be entered in an event that is co-owned by an Event Manager.

Event Chairpersons may enter a dog in an event at the discretion of the event giving club. It is strongly recommended that event giving clubs restrict the Event Chair from entering or handling a dog in any event in which they serve in this capacity.
