November 2012 Employee of the Month
Posted on 11/02/2012 from the home page.
Melissa has worked at UKC just over four years, since October of 2008, and has a Bachelors Degree in Art Education and Biology from Western Michigan University. She came to UKC because of her love of dogs, and loved the idea of a career involving everything dogs. Melissa's job responsibilities include coordinating ads for advertisers for UKC's three publications, production work including designing and proofing, and travelling to UKC Coonhound and Dog Show events. Her favorite part of the job is working with others who are so passionate about their dogs. "There is never a dull moment, and there is always more to learn! Travelling to the events I get to see all of our hard work come to fruition, and I get to meet the people who make everything we do possible."
As far as Melissa's background with dogs, she has previously worked at a Veterinary clinic for five years and has always done a lot of dog sitting. Her family has always had dogs, and currently has two English Setters. She hopes to have a bird dog of her own soon and has been researching breeds to find her next furry companion! She would love to have a dog that she can show, hunt and do performance events with - she loves the Total Dog philosophy!
Apart from dogs, Melissa enjoys painting, gardening, volunteering for National Ski Patrol and anything outdoors - especially camping.
As far as growth for UKC, Melissa is looking forward to seeing new events for the dogs to participate in. "They have so many talents and I love to see the teamwork and bond formed between the person and their dog!"
