KALAMAZOO, Mich., Oct., 17, 2011- UKC is pleased to welcome Sydney Suwannarat as the Executive Director of Performance Events for the newly expanded Dog Events Department. She will oversee the performance events programs, which include Agility, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Terrier Racing, Lure Coursing, Dock Jumping and Weight Pull.

Sydney comes to UKC with extensive experience in writing, editing and revising the rules and regulations for several types of dog events, as well as coordinating and maintaining judges educational programs and newsletters. She was also closely involved with the development of business plans, new dog event programs and the scheduling and organizing of regional events located throughout the country.

Sydney was first introduced to dog events by her mother who participated in obedience with Shetland Sheepdogs and then later a Border Collie. It became clear to Sydney early on that she shared her mother’s enthusiasm for dog training, and she began attending training classes offered by the local parks and recreation division. As an adult, she adopted a mixed-breed dog from a shelter and began to train him in obedience. Since that time she has been involved in dog training (both as a student and instructor), obedience competition and is a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Sydney is also a Rat Terrier enthusiast and has participated in UKC conformation events as well as bred a litter, of which she kept one puppy that is currently in training for tracking and obedience.

Sydney graduated from North Carolina State University in 2010 with a degree in Conservation Biology and a double minor in Environmental Science and Plant Biology. She has relocated to Kalamazoo to join UKC.

Established in 1898, the United Kennel Club is the largest all-breed performance-dog registry in the world, registering dogs from all 50 states and 25 foreign countries.
