Don McVay Sr. Memorial Hunt to License with United Kennel Club In 2014

Don McVay Sr. was a respected houndsman in central Ohio and the annual event to celebrate his memory has become just as well respected. It has in fact grown over the last 12 years to the point where it is the single largest UKC club sponsored event of the hunting beagle calendar year. It is perhaps best described as an annual reunion for hunting beaglers around the country as the emphasis seems to be more about having fun and remembering a good man.

Hosted by the Coshocton County Beagle Club of West Lafayette, Ohio, 2014 marks the 13th Annual Don McVay Sr. Memorial event. The United Kennel Club licensed this event from 2002 to 2011 and is very appreciative to return as the affiliated registry. Club member and event spokesman Dave McVay states “We are excited to have UKC back as the licensed registry. As a family, along with the help of Coshocton County Beagle Club, we continue to make every effort each year to make this event even bigger. With the support given by UKC we feel this year’s event will do just that.”

Allen Gingerich, Senior Director of Hunting Events at United Kennel Club, says, “The McVay Memorial is an event for hunting beagles that is truly unique in the sport today. We need more events like this where the focus is larger than just the event winner. We are looking forward to the affiliation and working with the event coordinators again”.

The Don McVay Sr. Memorial is typically held at the end of August but will now see a slight date change where it will be held in September on the weekend after Labor Day. Watch www.ukcdogs.com for more information as it becomes available and make plans now to attend one of the most popular UKC hunting beagle events of the year!

Established in 1898, the United Kennel Club is the largest all-breed performance-dog registry in the world, registering dogs from all 50 states and 25 foreign countries. More than 60 percent of its 15,500 annually licensed events are tests of hunting ability, training, and instinct.
