Megan Slocum

Megan Slocum will have been a UKC employee for one year in December. She worked at UKC previously for a year before leaving briefly, and has collectively been at UKC for roughly a year and a half altogether.

Megan applied for the job at UKC because she was interested in doing something different from what she had previously done; she worked in a preschool daycare for almost four years before coming to UKC. She liked the idea of working in an office environment and the potential of bringing her dog to work.

Megan works in Registration, Production to be more specific. Her responsibilities include checking paperwork for errors before being mailed out, and processing various types of applications (transfers, litters, singles, performance listings). She also performs tasks such as filing.

Megan’s favorite part of her job is processing Single Registration applications. She likes seeing photos of customers’ dogs and their pedigrees. “Certain dogs will pop up in different pedigrees a lot, and I think that is kind of interesting because you get to see how different dogs connect to one another with their lineage,” Megan said.

She had no previous experience working with dogs or attending any dog events before UKC. “I never grew up with dogs, but I have had my Beagle named Bosley for almost 5 years. He will be 7 years old in November,” Megan said. She and her husband also have a cat, Milo.

Megan graduated from WMU in December 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in Family and Child Development. She likes taking her dog to the dog park, or playing fetch in her backyard, scrapbooking, spending time with friends and family, preparing for the birth of her first child, and traveling. Her favorite place to travel is Disney World.

In the future, Megan looks forward to seeing the changes and growth in the company as UKC transitions some of the upper level staff. Megan says, “I'm excited to see what new things are to come!”
