11/05/2013: UKC 2013 Rules Proposal Official ResultsThe seven UKC Chartered Breed Associations met on Friday, August 30, 2013 to discuss and vote on the following rules proposals. It takes a majority vote for any proposal to pass. Those proposals that passed will go in effect beginning January 1, 2014.
10/10/2013: Q & A Update, Rules ProposalPlease Note: The Question/Scenario and Answer below originally ran in the Advisor Column in the 2013 July Issue. The UKC’s response to the scenario was based on very basic common sense and scores the dog in that specific situation for what it did and without any doubt. However, further consideration for variables that are often included in such situations suggests that it is in the UKC and the sport’s best interest to retract that original answer/response and replace it with the one provided here. Otherwise when the scenario varies even just slightly, it complicates matters too much.
09/09/2013: Q & AQ: On a Grand Nite cast the other night, all four dogs are declared treed. We proceed to score the tree and find an opossum. All four of us saw it. We continued to look and two of us found a coon. The other two could never saw the coon. How should this be scored?
08/05/2013: Q & AQ: On a Nite Hunt cast the other night, all dogs were declared struck and treed together. We got to the tree, handled the dogs back and started shining the tree. One of the handlers pulled a vine connected to the tree. When he did, a dead coon fell from the tree at his feet. How do we score this?
07/08/2013: Rules Change ProposalsEvery three years, the UKC Rules Change Committee meets to discuss proposals to change the rules in the UKC Official Coonhound Rulebook. The Rules Change Committee will meet this year at Autumn Oaks in Richmond, Indiana over Labor Day weekend.
06/05/2013: Q & AQ: I was in a hunt the other night where an older gentleman had a back-up handler. At the beginning of the hunt, the gentlemen declared his dog struck and treed, at which time he handed the dog over to his back-up handler.
